Manual Fan Switch
I'm looking for help regarding a manual fan switch. I'd like to be able to kick on the fans at the flip of a toggle switch at any time.
Does anyone have instructions on this for the ZX12? I'm sure I could figure it out on my own, but thought I would ask first to save time.

Get out of my head!!
I don't have an answer for ya, but you, I and my buddy are all on the same page!
Need that toggle switch to be able to force the fan between racing rounds.
Good Idea.
We haven't torn into the bike yet, but I'll keep on this post to see if anyone else has already done this.
Seems like you could do it two ways. Direct power to fan + ground, or tie into the feed off the temp sensor.
Dunno, just guessing.

the fan switch is located on the left side of the radiator, the gold thing. it's got two wires coming out of it that have a cover around both of them. He said he just wired them to a switch and can turn on the fan anytime he wants to

Yep. Just wire your toggle switch (or whatever switch you want to use) in parallel with the wires going to the thermostatic switch that is on the radiator. Splice off of the Blue/Black wire that "sends" power to the thermostatic switch and connect to one side of your switch. Splice off of the Blue/White wire that "sends" power to the fan and connect it to the other side of your switch. Make a parallel connection - don't wire the switch in series!! That way you will be able to turn on the fan whenever you want to, yet it will still turn on via the thermostatic switch like it always did even if you don't have your "new" switch closed.

toggle power
so I splice into the wire on the side of the radiator, but what does the toggle switch go to? power or ground?
Sorry I'm so retarded

I edited my previous post. It now tells you exactly how to wire in a new switch to turn on your fan. You only have to deal with the "positive" side of the circuit - not the ground. [The fan has a permanent connection to ground - the thermostatic switch has NO connection to ground.]

Anybody know where you can buy a small reversable weatherproof switch? it's better for drag racing to blow air forward so that you don't heat up the frame more in between runs at the drag strip. This is not my idea,Kcadby told me about it and it makes sense.

Harry's right...
It won't work worth a shit on the street running backwards but...at the track??? I like to run it backwards...it helps keep the frame (air-box) cooler. Especialy if you have the heat blacket... You can feel it pulling the "fresh air" from behind the motor...it WORKS...
I just reverse the wires inside the FAN connector to do it.

did similar on my yzf, but used a tiny toggle and relay to make switch placement easier. relay hides under fairing, and since i wired relay control power in parallel with the thermoswitch it saves wear on that as well. little switch fits on back of kill/start switch housing. out of sight, and works great. tho the 12 has a much nicer setup for adding switches and stuff to it, and letting it look good as well....toggle was like 2 bucks, relays were about 12 bux. wire i had....

Beware all ye temp switch installers.
Kawasaki are masters at designing engines to run at optimum engine and oil temps.
It is possible to cold seize. That is pistons expand during run but excessive cooling does not allow block to expand at the same rate. Alot of GPZ 900 guys fitted fan switches and needed hammers and blocks to remove pistons.

I did it to mine for this reason mainly. If sensor ever goes out again I flip switch and ride home never stranded. It was very easy. If you short the two wires together on the switch the fan will run. So I put a inline toggle switch 2 prong inline. All I did was splice into each wire and run one wire to each side of the toggle switch. It still kicks on automatically and works great and if sitting in heavy traffic flip swicth to stay cooler. Easy install about 5 to 8 minutes.... Hardest part is finding a nice looking place for the switch.... Good mod recommend it....
