K&N Filters

I just got off the phone with a muzzy rep. I asked him about K&N filters for a 2002 zx12R. He told me that they are now discontinued. They no longer make them. I said well I have some from my 2000 bike that I haven't used yet. He told me that they didn't make any performance difference that is why they were probably discontinued.

Can someone let me know if they felt a change with the filters in.

They absolutely make more power on the 2000 12r.
On a 99 zx9r that I tuned they didnt make any more power.
Some bikes do some dont. But the zx12r is one that does.

BMC offers a better made and fitting filter.
The filtration material is the same. (oiled cotton gauz)

BMC Race Filters

Installed a pair of BMC race filters, & had Cycle Barn dial it in, 162 before, and 168.2 after. I thought 168 was low, but on the following Sunday my 2k 12 won the open class horse power shoot out @ Cycle Barn. Alot of guys said that Cycle Barn's Dyno numbers were 10 HP less than their numbers @ the I-90 Shoot out the previous weekend. All I know is that the front wheel lifts earlier in the rev range, and 3rd gear acceleration feels like 2nd.

BMC offers a better made and fitting filter.
The filtration material is the same. (oiled cotton gauz)

Mega, thats about the results I've seen.
About 2 hp over the modded stock filters.
And about 6 hp over un modified stock filters.

never measured on a dyno, but my butt dyno says at least 2-3 ponies. Very feelable difference...

Discontinued? Oh no, guess I better try to find a set... Got mine from Wilson...

Heres a picture of the BMC race filter.
The frame is MUCH more ridgid than the K&N's frame.
They have built in ears to pull them out with. They go in and out as easy as the stockers.
The only drawback to them is the price. List is about $125 or so. But I bet they can be bought for a little over $100

If you guys get a group purchase going thru one of the board sponsors I bet you can get a good deal.

Good luck.

Probalbly because they didn't sell all that many. And based on what I've seen they had to listen to alot of bitching and griping!!

Quick question though. Now that K&N decides to not sell the filters, what happens with the Million Mile warranty??
Surely they have some stock for warranty claims....no?

I have BMC filters and I think they made a difference in performance, plus they fit great and I still haven't seen any dirt in the air box! Great filters!
