Probably be cheaper to go with a big bore and a stroker. I know you'll get more torque and Hp.

zx12r motor: 83 by 55.4mm 1199cc 162 hp, 91 lbs/torque

zx14 84 by 61 mm 1352 cc 169 horsepower, 105 lbs/torque

dollar for dollar just get a 1287 kit and degree your cams to 105/107

you are gauranteed 200RWHP with this set up

A big bore is the best bang for the buck. I made the decision several years ago to go with a 1361. My A1 made 212 rwhp and 124 ft/lbs torque. I'd do it again.

I'm going to have to disagree, nitrous is THE best bang for the buck...but its nice to have the power there all the time

If you have the money go with the 1317cc, 4 mm bore kit from Muzzy. This will get you over 200 horsepower easy and keep the same stroke..

The 3mm 1287 kti is also a good kit.. You cant have nitrous all the time..

Depends on who does the work. Some guys work on a motor and it's never as good as stock. Other guys work on a motor and it's better than stock.

well as for cam timing.. 103/101 is for low and mid range
105/107 is good for midrange and top end.. The exhaust number is not as important as the intake number.. Y2K did some dyno runs with different cam timing .. Having said that the 105/107 number is GOOD!

One thing you need to realize is just putting a bigbore kit or a stroker doesn't automatically mean an engine will run hotter. My 1270 doesn't run any hotter than a stock motor, unless your beating on it. You have to remember that the only time your making more heat is when your making more power. So day to day driving your not taxing the engine and making a lot of heat. And my 1270 is 3-4 years old now and runs just like it did when new.

The 1317 is a GREAT combination. I don't remember the numbers, but I remember that in testing, I really liked it.
Remember- for any given displacement, the shorter stroke almost always makes the most power.

The Muzzy website dynos the 1317 kit with 202 RWHP.. I saw a post by psycho he ran 105.5/100 lobe centers and 2.5 degrees ignition advance and yielded 202 rwhp at 11,300. This is with a 1270 kit.. With a 4-1-1 pipe proper cam timing and ignition a 1317 should make the same hp as the 1375. It won't make the same torque however. Big bore short stroke is the key for most horsepower.. Like a Formula 1 car 3.0 liters of displacement and 900 horsepower..

1375 kit 210 hp >120 torque

From Muzzy Web Site
Muzzys has improved the 1361 kit for the ZX-12 owner who just can't get enough! This kit is now a 1375 and includes everything you need to turn your ZX-12R into a 210 horsepower monster. Like wheelies? Over 120 lbs. ft. of torque at 7500 rpm ought to provide all you need. Want low end power for those "tough" situations? How about 100 hp at 5000 rpm? It's a straight shot from there to 210 hp at 10,000 until you hit the rev limiter! This is street-able, controllable horsepower that creates a well mannered monster out of your ZX-12R. This kit contains everything you need. It is a true bolt in; no machine work is required. The forged pistons provide a 13.5:1 compression ratio. The kit contains a crankshaft with a stroke increase of 4.6 mm, special base spacer and gasket, 2.4mm oversize pistons, rings, clips, head gasket and a bored and re-plated cylinder.
There is a core charge applicable to your crankshaft and cylinder.
A Power Commander 3 (available separately) is required and an appropriate map is supplied with the kit. Price is an affordable $1,995.95

nox,
the offset cyl on the 1317 (and 1427) make this set up a lil different animal.
Rods don't sit in the center of the wrist pins, and pistons are off set with respect to the combustion chambers. There are stopgap remedies to these situations, but IMO the 1317 is NOT a 1270, just bigger...

I had to put this topic in the microwave and re-heat it because I need some input. I will soon be putting together a ZX-12R for street use and was thinking about doing a 3 X 3 motor with a cleaned-up head. Then I started reading how much power was being achieved with just a simple 1270, 1287 or 1290 motor with proper cam degree (105/107) and a cleaned-up head.

Q1: Are we talking stock cams?
Q2: Do I need adjustable cam sprockets to achieve these degrees?
Q3: How much more benefit would I see by doing the stroke with the bore?
Q4: Is it okay to do a thin gasket with the bore or should I run stock sized gasket?

Thanks
GSXR
