Billet Clutch Baskets.....and info.....
We'll this weekend I did the deed. I knew it would eventually happen just didn't want it to happen on the Open Trials! Got to love the drag strip! Oh WEll. My stock clutch basket pretty much exploded. My questions is what is the best thing to do now? I heard alot of things about the Falicon Baskets. What do they run? Are they better or worse than the Muzzy baskets and why. The guys from Highlands who race (9) 12's pretty much swear by them and say they have never had a Falicon basket break. I have also been told to use my Muzzy clutch springs with stocks clutches and the Falicon Basket for the overall best outcome. What are your guys thoughts? Pics to come this week as I tear it down. :-(

Yes I was there this weekend. Remember I am the one who runs with Laura the girl who runs the Harley. She wasnt with me this weekend because she had surgury ion her foot. I was there on my red one of course and during the seconf pass of open trials as I shoifted into third gear it went to hell in a hand basket! I have the Muzzy clutch already just not a Billet basket. You think Muzzy Basket is better than the Falicon basket? Why?

I could be wrong, but I believe Falicon makes them up for Muzzys. I do know that Falicon is running behind but Muzzy had them in stock this past week.....They are good pieces.

As mentioned the falicon and muzzys baskets are the same. Since yours is broken you may or may not get the core refunded it depends on the condition yours is in and if the backplate is reusable.
Do the billet basket and clutch mod from Muzzys at the same time. Just order it all from Muzzys.

I already have the Clutch package. I just did not do the basket at the time of clutchs. When I pull them apart this week I will see what condition the clutcheds are in.

Sorry I couldn't find you at the strip, DJ. I'd make real sure you get all the shrapnel outta that thing before you button her up. I'd probably remove the oil pan for a good look. It comes off pretty easily. With the addition of the billet basket, you should be good to go.

Just the basket alone is worth a good 1/10th!! (or maybe even 2/10ths!)
Well worth the price of admission! I even put off getting nitrous so I could squeeze the basket into the budget...lol

I don't think there is much difference between a Muzzy and a Falicon basket. I believe Muzzy gets the baskets from Falicon that they mount up. Don't expect an improvement in performance, the billet basket is heavier (could help your launch slightly). The security of knowing that it wont blow thru the side cover has to be worth the price. My springs in my basket are getting weak. Muzzy said to get a new basket from kawasaki, then make a new billet basket. Falicon will shim up the springs if I send them the basket because they have no replacement springs. They're not sure of the results, but it should work.

You need the thick, 2.0 mm steels. All fibers are the same thickness. You can order everything as a set from Schnitz racing or look up the part numbers at Buykawasaki.com and save even more money by ordering them from Ron Ayers Motorsports. His steels go for $5.80 each! You should only need enough steels and fibers to replace what came with the Muzzy hub kit. I can't remember how many of each it takes. The springs supplied with the kit should be fine.

The rumors are true.....
I pulled the clutch apart last night and my thought where right on. The basket pretty much shattered into many many pieces. BUT, it also broke several of the clutch rings. Is that normal? Bad thing is those are Muzzy Clutches and they only had about 10 passes on them and about 200 road miles! BUMMER!!!!

Mike (any everyone else),
That brings up a good question. Several guys at the track run Muzzy/Falicon Baskets, Muzzy Springs, and stock clutches. They say the stock clutches hold up better due to them being better becasue the are built under stricter standards and all. Any thought on that?

Stock clutches
I also thought everybody uses stock clutches. I think the Muzzy kit uses stock clutches, since the steels come in three different sizes. I think they are 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 mm. The Muzzy kit uses the 2.0's, just less (10 instead of 11, I think) since each steel is thicker. The steels will withstand more heat and are less likely to warp, etc.

Well what I have found for my dragracing, the stock clutch fibers hold up the best!! I have tried 2 diffrent fibers before, Barnett's, lasted 150miles and one race, and then an old school fiber some dealer told me about, cant rember what kind of bike it was off of, but he said he used to use it in his dragbike, Well they lasted 100 miles and less then one race.. I believe it was an old Honda fiber? but stock fibers are the way to go here. and actually Muzzy carries the steel's and fibers in stock!! which is very cool.

Did any part of the clutch setup change from the 00/01 model 12 to the 02/03 model?
