Quickest way to diag an FI light
The FI light is illuminated on my '01, what's the quickest method to determine the issue? Trying to leave for Maxton in the morning and I have to work late today

Under the rear seat and under the plastic storage tray is a single Yellow wire on the right side. If you short it to chassis ground and turn the bike on (not start) it will make the FI light flash in a pattern that indicates a fault number that you can look up in the manual.
If for instance you got one long flash followed by two short flashes that would be a code 12.

And if multiple codes are have been logged they are normally appearant by a distinct pause between the codes(as ridgeracer described above), as well as there being an intermission(fast series or group of flashes) after all codes are presented which shows that is all the codes(present and historic - if Kaw logs historic codes), and then the cycle will repeat itself.

Not sure on these bikes(i'm sure someone knoweldgable will answer though), but on the bikes I work on(delphi systems)... I have a couple different interfaces I can access and clear the codes with. The system is also setup by the oem to clear codes after 50 start cycles(key on, start button, key off).
The start cycle sequence was designed so the code would still be in there once the customer makes it back to the shop for diagnostics(sometimes many days later). But some customers will sequnce their bikes like this once they find out.... not realizing the diagnostics they just saved $ on just cost them in wear on their starting and/or electrical system components.
I'm curious if there's a way to tell the difference between a current and a historic code other then it coming back once you clear it.

I plan to run N/A only unless I can at least identify the cause of the FI light.
Hoping to arrive mid-day Friday and go straight to tech, then back to the hotel to check in and dick around with it.

Bergie the manual says" Even if the ignition switch is turned off or the problem is solved, all service codes remain in the ECU.
If the battery or the ECU are disconnected all service codes will disappear in the ECU"
per 3-62 FUEL SYSTEM (DFI)

I pulled the battery and the ecu off the harness, still got an FI light after reconnecting so something is broke. N/A for me this weekend.
