very cool vid!

VERY cool vid... but I keep asking myself, why the Duc 996 and not a 12 or a Busa? I mean the Duc owns on the track - but on a long cross country run - I bet the 12 or busa would eat duc's for breakfast  .

too true. i was thinking the same thing. but i guess since the event is as much about exotic cars as it is speed (more so since it shoudlnt take 5 days to cross the country), they went with the "ooo..aaahhh" factor. must be uncomfortable as hell to ride so much. but the one rider got sent to jail anyhow, so i dont know if he finished the rally. prolly not.

hey deathpulse,it is called a status thing..you see most of the cars are not your run of the mill mustangs,camaro's etc.etc.duc's are expensive, non practical,you have got to love the balls of the drivers of the vechiles..i would like to see that race come thru my town....later...reddawg:o

Next year I hear the rally is San Fran to Miami. 6k entry fee :/
Id think you would HAVE to have some sort of supply truck running behind you to make it all the way on a bike with the way most of us ride 
Add in the chance to play with 100 or so supercars for 3000 miles of open highway? shit..I doubt id last a day before somethin broke....or id have to refill my bottle

i heard twas a 10G entry fee this year. something about auctioning entries off for charity. also every person entering had to buy an item at a charity auction held at the playboy mansion (it was the finishing line!). so it's not cheap. some crazy stories tho. at least one guy had a helicopter scanning the road for them for cops. the guy with the RUF porsche with the big texas flag on it was responsible for it apparently. also, when they get into the big roadblock u see near the end of the vid where there's a whole whack of cars pulled over, the texan called his big shot lawyers on the spot & apparently got them going again! crazy. read that texas was the most receptive state, since the cops were shuttin down the highway for them instead of ticketing them! very cool.
as to downloading the video, the guy bought a 2G pentium 4 machine with 1G ram etc and the only thing on the machine is this video. but here's the crazy part. he has a dedicated OC3 line going to the machine. this is a 155Mbit/s line. thats 100 times the speed of a T1 line. cost is somewhere in the $10,000 to $15,000US a month range. jsut to host this video. u can see how he could afford to enter the rally
there is a URL at the end of the video to a thread on the producer's site. the thread has all kinds of details. but it's LONG.

Rumors had the RUF porsche as the fastest "recorded" vehicle of the run clocked somewhere around 215mph
