crank position sensor

Seeing how the search function doesn't work, how much clearance is suppose to be between the rotor and the cps?I found mine well below peak dcv and it looks like it was rubbing.I'm going to order a new cps but I want to make sure there is nothing mechanical as to why it failed.

Rubbing is VERY bad. I think it's about .020, if I remember correctly.
I hate to say this but if the sensor is solid, the main bearing could be (or have been) wiped out. Is this on an engine rebuilt AFTER a failure? Hard to get them to touch any other way if the sensor was screwed on tightly.

Well, why not with my luck.Is there any way of verifying without disassembling the motor?I have never touched the mains, only the rod bearings. Now I'm going to have to turn it over by hand and see if they are all this tight.

It's adjustable, I had one bent the other way during a rebuild, and would not start until i closed the gap.
Don't know why it moved, but just bend it until it clears about 20 thou.
I'm pretty sure you would have gold in your oil pan in the main were wiped that bad.

Replaced cps and it definately has more space between the rotor and the sensor.Still didn't make a difference in idling. For fun I raised the bar several spaces on the low adjustment on the pc111,bingo started idling alot better and responds to the throttle. At least now I know what to concentrate on.After resetting the tps in the pc111 and just hyaving it tuned on a dyno,I wonder if the rest of the map is off now.

Doug,Idon't know how it could be in anything but the right location. The cps has guides for the 2 bolts that fit into a recessed hole.
