Time for Valve Adjustment?

My '04 12R runs really well with the full Arata, PC3 and 4400 miles and I've driven it about 1000 miles since I got it in January. But I've noticed a couple things. The previous owner had the idle at about 1500 rpm. I figured that he
lacked low speed throtle skills and adjusted in down to about 900 rpm and notived since then that the bike will stall sometimes when I pull the clutch in at slow speeds.

I plan on bumping the idle back up to 1100 to see if that will remedy that but yesterday I was slowing down to take a right hand turn at a light, pulled the clutch in momentarily, let it back out and Bang- the engine backfired.

So I'm wondering is that just a freak thing that it might have stalled and when I let the clutch back out some unburnt fuel in the exhaust ignited or do I need a valve adjustment at only 4400 miles?? Anyone else experience this?

Sounds like a lean condition ....I assume your bike hasnt sat without starting for extended
periods..ie injectors in need of cleaning.... I assume your battery is in top condition...
Bad battery has been the source of many hard to diagnose gremlins....I doubt very seriously
valve clearance is at issue ......Just my 2 cents

why do you want to set the idle low???

12's have REALLY low oil pressure at idle...

IMO the previous owner had the right idea; set idle higher rather than lower.

BTW we checked wideouts valve clearance at about 20,000 mi. Only 1-2 valves were out of spec, and they were so close he could have run em that way for another 20000 mi

thanks guys, I'll turn the idle back up and check/charge the battery, look at one of my plugs, and report back.

One other thing, any reason not to use gas additive injector cleaner (like lucas)??

Since you use the pc3....Have you checked your tps closed position .....and if you do ...
you dont need the engine running....just plugged into the computer with the ignition "on"

I guess you could call it a "home" position check
