I saw Wilson on Saturday....
Rode out to Uof M Medical Center Saturday moring to see him. They took his left leg from above the knee, it looked like way above the knee. He is stable though and in pretty good spirits. It happened arounf 4:30pm pm Saturday of Memorial Weekend, a drunk bitch pulled out of the bar parking lot and t-boned him. She didn't even look. He is REALLY pissed off about it, as am I. He rememebers some things but not others, he thought he was on his Goldwing when in fact he was on his 12. It was a shitty day that Saturday, rain and cold but anyone who knows Wilson knows he is a rider and weather doesn't really matter that much he rides all the time. HE is one of the safest riders I know and would never put himself in jeapordy. He seemed pretty uncomfortable but again seemed in pretty good spirits, he was asking how the Gap was and if I had a good time, always thinking about others he is. He is also pissed cause he said he just bought new cams for his 12 and they just came in the mail a couple days before. And he is also pissed at the nurses there, they don't seem to come in his room enough to see if he needs anything. And he was restrained, which I understand for drunks and combative patients, but he was so mellow that it was stupid and he wanted me to undo them, so I let him loose, then he shook my hand, well as best he could with the padding he had on them (saftey padding, not cause his hands were screwed up). He is going to need a not of strength in the next few weeks but I'm sure he will be fine. He can't take calls in the Trauma unit so we'll have to wait til he's moved. When he is I'll try to get the number to his room so you can call if you want.
Wilson is a tough cat and I'm sure he'll deal with this, he certainly is not put off by riding, it seemed that that was mostly what we talked about. Sitting there like he was, in the hospital all banged up he was still very concerned that we get Finalvelocity's headshake figured out on his 12. A true motorcyclist.
Everyone say a prayer for him to have the strength he needs and pray that the stupid fucking drunk bitch gets what she fucking deserves!!!!!!!!!!
Chris
Redlek, he had called me before I left for the Gap and asked me if I could get his name tag and stickers from you but I forgot to ask you about them, do still have them? If so could you mail them to me so I can give them to him? e-mail me at cbc@davissmith.com

Met Wilson today (6/4)
He's doing much better than last week. Spoke to his mom - apparently the woman in her Blazer who hit him was gabbing on her cell phone when she hit him. Atleast she had the decency to call 911. They dont know anything else right now.
Last Thursday he almost lost his life according to his Mom. Lost 12-13 or so pints of blood. He could talk, but not very well yet. He was still concerned about my head shake - what a guy! I told him he should'nt be thinking of these things now. He was happy when I told him everyone on the board sent him their best wishes. I took the printouts of the other thread re. him and this one - his mom was esp. happy on seeing it.
He remembers the woman coming at him and then nothing. I felt really sad seeing him lose his left leg and felt real anger at the bitch who's stupidity/ignorance caused this.
I hope to God they go after her real hard - cell phone distraction is as bad as drunk driving.

Just an update on my Dad
Hi Everyone, I am Wendy, Wilson's daughter. I got to meet FinalVelocity (Roe, spelling?) today. (Thank you so very much for coming.) He brought in copies of your email threads. My Dad really enjoyed them. Some infact brought him to tears. We appreciate your prayers. I know that is why he is here with us today. Chris I am sorry I didn't get to meet you Saturday. Maybe next time.
Anyway, I just wanted to clear up a couple of things that we know. My Dad doesn't remember anything about the accident yet. So, what we know is recreated from the police who arrived at the scence. As you may all know no one has come forward about the accident as a witness. Anyway, the accident happened on May 17 at 4:30pm. He had just left work and was travelling North on Merriman. As he approached W. Chicago A 30 year old woman in a Blazer was turning left. She told police she didn't know what direction he was coming from as she never saw him. My Dad comes straight home every night so I knew he would be travelling North only. The police have not told us Ms. Wessel was drunk, or not. My Dad may have been confused because there is a man in Trauma/Burn who was hit by a drunk driver and his wife and kids and I have become close.
As for why my dad was restrained, he was having some reactions to all the morphine and ripped off his dressings and ripped into his stiches 8 different times. He has some major infections and they didn't want the trauma of having to keep restiching him. Also his mechanic fingers were highly toxic!!!!! Chris you happened to see him his first morning after his first calm night. He has had a fever of 107 and blood pressure so low his heart stopped. We rode a pretty scary rollar coaster since May 17, but he seems to have come around a great medical corner. He is amazing to all. Next up, this Thursday they are hoping to close up his amputation site. They will probably have to have skin grafts from his thigh area on his right leg. Very painful I am told. Please keep him in your prayers, and if anyone wants to email me at sidejob@aol.com please do. I will try to get online in this chat site. Just not too savvy at doing so. Have a great week. Wear Kevalar! Too bad Dad didn't have on his kevalar pants or it wouldn't have taken 9 operations just to get the stones, gravel, and grass out. He didn't have anyproblems on his upper body because of his kevalar jacket!!!!!
Thank you all for your prayers. May God watch over all of you.
Kind Regards, Wendy

thank you for the updates, it is uplifting to hear that he continues to improve despite the odds.
it is a situation that no-one ever wants to be in, but like all things in life, it can happen in an instant. and your life is changed forever.
as for whether the woman gets punished and all, well i would imagine she will get a ticket and insurance rate rise.
a mere slap on the wrist for the damage she caused in a moment of sleeping at the wheel. hopefully she has enough coverages to cover the medical bills.
most of the time though, a 'i never saw them coming' is more accurately translated in to "i didn't bother to look'
hopefully she will bother to look in the future.
anyway i pray Wilson has a solid recovery and should any needs arise, yell. might not be able to do much, but anything is better than nothing.
God Bless

I'm always at a loss for words when bad things happen. I feel for the ones that are hurt and for their family and friends, but just don't know what to say. Even though I've never met Wilson, I have exchanged a few e-mails with him in the past and he was always pleasant and helpful. He is in my thoughts and I wish him luck in his recovery and rehabilitation. One thing that comforts me is knowing that he has a great support group with his family and friends.

Went and Saw my Buddy Wilson!!!!!
Well, I stopped by the Hospital to see Wilson today. He is recovering. He was talking. Wilson still has a long road to tow so keep the spirits and the prayers coming.
He has some great family standing behind him. They have been reading all of our posts to him. It means alot to Wilson that we are all he for him!
Thanks for everyone that is showing support!
Wilsons message to us was BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!! He said that to Ken and I but I know that he means for all of us to be carefull. When one of our safest riders is this badly injured it really makes you think about your riding and just out right luck!!!
Wilson is a strong old goat...young at heart....hell anyone that is 61 and rides a freaking ZX12R!!!!!!! LOL...When his daughter said.."Well, Dad you can always ride a Trike!!!"....Wilson said - hell know, I'll be riding my own motorcycle again!!!!
Wilson...(if your Mom or Daughter read this to ya)...You keep getting better and I'll pop in agian in the next week and half!! Stay strong....we are all praying for ya!!!

He broke his HIP, Pelvic Bone in a few places and smashed his leg to pcs. He was fighting for his life at first. After many pints of blood and many surgeries, It seems as if he will pull through this. It will take months of recovery and rehibilitaion for him to get back to living!!!!
It was heartbreaking to see him in the hospital today!!! But at the same time......Kzz1 said....I wanna be like Wilson when I get older....Take a freaking Beating and keep on going....Keep on riding!!!!!
