digital camera for closeups
My digital camera aint that red hot at closeups.
I'm planning on systematically documenting the condition of bearings, pistons, etc and need something better.
any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!!!!

any of the canon powershots (digital ELPH) are awesome... costco is your best bet cuz if it dies or you crush it with your SUV you can switch it out for a new one... newest one can do 1600 ASA which is importan as the key to extreme closeups (in case you dont already know) is to have the camera on macro ("flower") and to make sure that the flash is OFF.
Hope this helps!

Crank it up to the highest resolution it will handle, make sure the lighting is as bright as possible and focus and shot as close as you can. You'd be surprised what you can crop out of a big picture detail-wise with a fairly inexpensive camera.
I've got a little Olympus C700 (2.1 megapixel - 10x zoom) that takes excellent closeups out of the box.
My Nikon D80 @ 10.9 megapixel will take insane closeups in RAW/NEFF format, but it cost a few dollars more than the Olympus.

I just upgraded to a Canon Digital Rebel XTI. The one that I took to Goliad was too old. Insane close ups with a macro lens.

most digital cameras have a "macro" feature. you have to make sure you select this feature somewhere in the settings before taking the picture. even a 1megapixel camera can take a close up. you just need to figure out the proper settings to use for a close up. Save your cash.
