i always put the numbers facing out, might save counting teeth.

i install by putting a 2x4 thru the spokes and under the arm, then tq to 94# or whatever the spec is.

I've seen folks just hit it with an impact to tighten, but i sure don't like that method.

Be sure not to forget that lock washer type thing, IMO its needed...

you think the 2X4 way is good in removal procedure,, or impact,,it would evidentally have to be in gear that way,, and ive read somewhere that you dont want it in gear etc.. anyone??

I used an impact to tighten a sprocket once, only once! In tightening it pulled the trans shaft hard enough to break where the bearing sat in the tranny.Granted this was on a Harley but the lesson was learned.Besides,I like to feel if the threads are buggered.

in no case would i have it in gear.

The 2X4 holds the wheel from rotating and the chain keeps the f spk from rotating

As AA says, pls do not use an impact to tighten it, but loosening is fine (with trans in neutral)

Yeah, you hit it with an impact in gear and you are gonna get to learn what a tranny looks like up close and personal.
