they claim that I must be "more sensitive" to issues like this than other riders.... shit.. I have owned a LOT of bikes and NEVER had this prob.... to boot, we own an 00 6R and it's rock solid... they dont want to understand that I really do have a problem....
dman.. .I bet Bostrom doesnt get this treatment when he complains about his chassis setup!

Hey Fish - atleast you got them to replace your 12's bearings! My front tire has cupped, am replacing them this week. I have never had steering head shake earlier, not matter at what speed - bike was rock stable even under WFO, upto 180-190 indicated. My stem bearings were over-tightened to 20 lb-ft (recommended was 14.5) to help correct the problem but actually now I can feel the steering become more heavy. Need to set it back to 14.5 lb-ft.
Ted - FYI stem bearings were torqued to specs. Suspension is dialed in OK, but could be better.

seriously...
Add two - four pounds of pressure to your tire. I talked with the factory folks from Dunlop (I know, michelins are on your ride...) at Road America and they said some bikes are sensitive to the size of the contact patch. I had headshake on my bike at 120-130 mph and that is what took care of the problem...

Interesting.....
My bike has recently starting giving me a little tank slapping at high speeds. It usually doesn't occur until around 140 mph and never really scares me that bad, but I know it shouldn't be doing it. If I didn't have a damper I'd bet the thing would really get my attention. I'm gonna check it out a little more before my next ride.
I checked my suspension adjustments before my last ride and everything was fine. I guess it is time to dig deeper.

That contact patch theory *was* interesting. Once I get my new tire mounted I'm gonna try that. 3-4 psi eh?
I was tempted to go back to the D207s, because a service guy here said that there are possibilities some big bore Ninjas are esp. prone to such weird behaviour (even if everything else seems to be OK) if they do not have the recommended tires that they originally came on. When I spoke to Kawasaki's customer service (which incidentally sucks - their PR is BS) they said that they always recommend using the D207s for this bike since it has been tested only with those and not with aftermarket tires such as the Pilots!
Redelk did bring up an interesting point about the pressure of the rear shock. Need to have mine checked too.

I've had two ZX-12Rs. The first one was rock fuckin' solid. If I came down from wheelie and it wasn't perfect, the front end would find it's groove and keep on going...no problem whatsoever! It ALWAYS corrected itself. This second one...it's a scary fucker. I survived one tank slapper already. I don't know how...I just held the fuck on. Have many witnesses to that little mishap. That was on D207s. I switched to BT010s and it felt a lot more secure...was never twitchy at speed. Got a good deal on a front D207, so I put it back on. Same deal...bike's scary now at speed/acceleration. Wierd how my first one couldn't be unsettled, yet the second one with 207s sucks. Don't want to hear about tire pressure or suspension settings. Everything is checked out on mine. The triple tree height thing is interesting, though. :-0
