new 12... bad times.
Hey guys, took delivery of my 2000 12r, but went out for my first ride and there's something up. It is very jittery at low speeds needing lots of revs and clutch to get going and in top you roll the throtle on and not much happens, something i guess a 12 shouldn't do. any ideas and help would be greatly apreciated. The dealer i got it from says he serviced it but they all do and i dont trust them.
cheers, chris

According to the Busa and ZX-14 guys thats just the way all ZX12s run!!!!!!!!!
Just Kidding.
When you whack it on and the bike does not do much does the tach rev up? If so It kind of sounds like your clutch.
Re-read your post, what mods does your bike have?

cheers guys. Revs dont go up it just doesn't move as you would expect. No mods either. when idling it doesn't stay constant, it kinda hic-ups, does it more at low speeds especially when moving away, you have to give it about 3 - 4 k or it judders quite bad.
Its awful gettin a shiney new bike and havin a anoyin problem when all i wanna do is ride, hopefully i'll get it to a garage on monday

Three Things to know! First, the clutch is a problem in the 2000 that first came out because they sat for a long time and it squeezed all of the Oil out of the plates. It made taking off difficult because the clutch was Grabby and you could easily Stall it. If that is the Problem, then an entirely new clutch need to be installed.
It is hard to understand exactly what you are saying and that makes it harder to help you. I cannot tell if it is the engine or the CLutch? Once underway, and the clutch is not involved, are you saying that the bike does not accelerate?
From some of the words you use it sounds like you are in Europe. If you are, then you need to see if you got a French Model! It has HUGE Restrictors that you can see in the throttle Bodies that limit the HP to about 100HP if that is the case
You need to remove the seat, the gastank cover and the Ram Air covers then the front bolt holding the Gas tank. Raise the tank up and hold it there with the Prop rod. You will see 2 silver plates bolted into the Frame with 3 - 10 MM head Bolts, Remove the Left Plate (The one without the sensor,
Then hold the throttle Wide Open and look down the Throttle Bodies. You should see nothing but the cross section of the Butterfly you just twisted wide open. If you see some washers that restrict the Opening to about 25 MM then you have a French Model.
You can remove the Restrictors but I would suggest making the dealer remove them and replace your ECU with a ROW ECU (Rest of the WOrld)

I checked the shop manual troubleshooting guide for Idling stability, Hesitation, and poor acceleration and all three recommend pretty much the same items to check
1) Fuel Pump
2) Injectors
3) Fuel Pressure
4) Water Temp sensor (cold start idle problem?)
Not much help I'm afraid. Most of us don't have the equipment laying around to check fuel pressure and I wouldn't try cleaning the injectors unless you know what your doing. I'd find a good shop
How many miles on the bike?

I had the exact same problem.
Reason.
Uprated 3 springs had been fitted but not in every other hole, all were in series causing the clutch to bind because of the offset spring pressures.
Simple fix.
Remove all springs check lengths, and refit alternately.
job done.

I got the impression it's an engine issue...
In any case, go get your money back!! There's many excellent 12R's out there for sale, loaded with goodies, for great prices. Don't label the 12R as a POS, there's sometning up with that used 12! I had a '00 from new to 30k miles trouble free. My '02 is doing equally well.
Pisses me off, seeing you get had like that..

I second the test drive question.
My 12 will make you religious in short order. It flat fucking hauls ass from idle to redline.
I've got $20 in my pocket that says your timing is screwed up.
I've got another $20 that says you've got one or both camshafts are off one tooth.

cheers guys took it to a good mechanic i know he looked at it/rode it and says its nothin major just needs a good service hasn't had one since 2003 and its been standing in the dealers for about 6 month. i got some Wurth engine cleaner from the mechanic to put in he says it may be just 'bad' fuel and need a good ride out. The owner before me didn't cover many mailes in the last 2 years (only 2000) and i guess its just been getting fired up and left to stand, which i've heard isn't the best thing for any engine. Anyways getting a full service and hopefully this will sweeten up my 12. I've been out on it and it is better now - this thing is so stable at high speed. Do EU 12's havce a catalytic conv? if so does it screw them down much?

You'll know when it's running 100%, trust me...
So glad things are looking up for you. Some chisel out the cat, for 1-2 hp near redline. I never did it. I did, however use a couple full systems. Wait 'til you try that, he he he.

It ain't over Vince.
And ya gotta admit, that description above don't sound like any 12 I've ridden, including one that has sat for a long while (mine).

Parts of it sounded like my "1st" Sold by the Dealer 12 I bought! I stalled and almost dropped that bike so many times I felt like a Rookie out for his first ride! A few times with Peggy who knew I was not doing so well! One time she said, can you handle this? when the Clutch plates were replaced It was a LOT smoother on take off and the stalling went away.
BUT IT ALWAYS HAD POWER! I really felt that he had one from France! He never said where he was from but his profile says UK so it could be like us on the east coast getting a "California" Hunk of Junk with all of the plumbing!
