Silver BUsa rider dead in Detroit, anyone know him?

Saw it on the news last night. The guy was going 140 in a 35 and smacked a truck. Appearantly his body went over 70 feet but in pieces. 140 in a 35?? WTF! Two other riders were with him and what did they do? They took off.

Otis...

How are bikes, in general, viewed up there by people and the media?

When I was up there two years ago, you almost never saw a foreign car unless the manufacturer was owned by an American company.

I wonder how accurate that 220 top speed is?

Well...... I think what you have there with the reporting of the 220 mph speedometer is just an attempt to further inflame things. They did not say anything that is not correct, but they said it in a way that uninformed people will think it means something different than it really does mean.
My Wife's Ford Focus has a 140 mph speedo if I remember right. I doubt it will go anywhere near that fast. (I've never tried though)

Bad press for us!

Speed has never killed anybody or anything.

Ever.

How does some girl who can't even speak the Queen's English correctly, know about how fast he was going?

This guy was doing a wheelie at 140? I didn't know Gary Rothwell was in Detroit!

The guy was going 140, and people could still see that he wasn't looking at the road?

Hmmm...

If I take a hammer....

... and hit a Busa speedo causing it to register 190, is that the speed of the hammer or how fast the Busa was going? Does that take in to account the speedo error or not?

Regardless....

Of what the speedometer says or doesn't say it is more than obvious this fool was driving too fast for the conditions. Highly populated residential areas are not the right place for high speed wheelies or high speed driving for that matter. The carnage and debris left from this accident suggests that the motorcyclist was out of control and I'm glad he was the only one to lose their life. Not that I want to see or hear about anyone losing their life in an accident but DAMN, that kind of shit is just stupid and uncalled for. Just my humble opinion.

sorry guys I have to agree with BMW on this one...and I do have a friend that can do 140mph wheelies on his busa... well close enough anyway! who knows how fast he was going but even 100 in town is way too fast... for a skilled rider let alone the avg joe.. I hate to see anyone lose their lives!!! but I also am glad that he did not take anyone with him.

ummm... 140 wheelies are really nothing.... shit just shift to 3rd..... I set them down all the time at the limiter in 2nd.... 120ish... I haven't had a good enough reason to shift to 3rd yet....

but either way he was at fault... and for all we know he could have been doing 90mph... shit these backwoods mother fuckers probably don't realize that 90mph in a 30mph zone looks like 140.... I think if he was doing 140 the car and bike would have been more toast.... man a true 140mph impact with a non moving object is fierce.....

in conclusion he wasnt going 140mph.... ...

RIP busa rider.....

Most of us here pick and chose wisely

and thus we are all, for the most part, still here. Some of us drag race, some of us do twisties, some of us road race and some of us even street race. Still, we tend to pick our locales for violating traffice laws better then this guy did.

Yes, it's sad that anyone dies, but like a drug overdose, does it really warrant our pity? His conduct in a heavily populated area that had numerous intersecting streets is no more intelligent the filling a syrenge with uncut China White. Basically... it was beyond stupid.

What make matters even worse is that he now has left behind a "legacy". Now, the non-riding public will be even further entrenched in their beleif that sportbike riders are a threat to the general public and do not deserve any form of respect on our city streets.

Next time some cager cuts you off or pulls out from that Wal-Mart parking lot in front of you, you can thank this guy for it.

stupid cager cut him off....

i can't believe the audacity that guy in the car had for turning left in front of that guy.

the nerve, i mean come ON it's that guy's personal speedway and noone has the right to be on it but him.

;P

anyway still a sad topic, im just very glad that the car occupants are fine, they really had no recourse at all, and definately don't deserve to suffer for someone else's poor judgement.

having been in situation where i made a turn and realized that the traffic was moving MUCH MUCH faster than i expected, and definatly much more than the speedlimit, i understand how it must have felt, though no impact involved in my case, good thing i didnt buy the 4 cylinder model is all i got to say about THAT one....(semi was doing well above 75 in a 55 (i know, because he was still gaining on me when *I* hit 70, and he was slowing down)

my paranoia in residential areas is sorta a safety net. hopefully i don't often need to exploit it, but it is there just in case. some of the backroads around here would be really cool at 75. but i dont need to be trying to dodge some 8 yrold on his bike out for a ride on the relatively deserted roads here.

or hitting some 5yr old's dog in front of...oh...wait...hrmmmm....i guess at least it wasn't his....

anyway remember, keep it safe, and all the idiots out there are out to get you. even the ones on 2 wheels.

ps: ask greenglenn about the idiot on bike we encountered last september onthe way to gap2.....

Cold

Damn it's cold in here!
We all do stupid stuff. Do we all deserve to die for it?
150 mph is stupid, at the track, or on a back country road.
Running the back roads and the dragon is stupid, but if
god forbid one of us dies, are we asking for it.
i don't think we want to say we're asking for it, because
we do something most people would not understand.
I've been in stupid situations which could have cost me my
life more than i care to think, But i wasn't asking for it. At least i didn't think so.
Please don't say i was asking for it if i bit the big one.

If you have never used bad judgement, or put yourself in harms way, GREAT . Most of us have on more than one occasion. He was one of us.
