...as acceptable as fitted luggage in the trunk of a sportscar....art-deco style hard topcases look like shit on the back, however....

Guys... I use a Tankbag everyday, to take my lunch, phone, extra fleece shirt, and Ipod to work. My wife teases me and calls it a purse, I proudly call it a MAN bag

Permanently mounted hard side luggage would raise some eyebrows with me, but throwing some soft side on the ass for a week trip?

Nothing wrong with that.

I raised some eyebrows at Maxton running my 12 with Beetle Bags, everyone was trying to figure out what I was doing there with a bagger.
My gearing was way too tall but it's what I rode over there with and it still ran 185mph, not too bad for a touring bike.
I personally have nothing against sport bikes doubling as touring bikes, not everone wants a Gold Wing but they may still need a little luggage capacity.
I just bought a new, leftover '06 Concours 'cause the 500 mile days on the 12 was starting to get to me and it frees me up to now make the old 12 faaaaast!!

Well steve,

this just isn't your day! there has always been a lack of sport in the touring dept. as such many have hung hard lugage on sport bikes to take the show on the road. Taking my ZX11 on a dozen interstate trips still brings a big smile to my face. I can't justify a concours 14 now with the other projects I've got going on so I'll likely hang something on ZX12 for up coming trips. as long as it's funtional and you use what you got WTF hang a side car on you ZX if you want to take your dog on a high speed run. Just think "fastest dog in the south" lol

ya H2, I'm hammered! i didn't realize so many were into luggage. now I know I'm gonna' run the same poll in the 600RR forum where the crowd is younger and see if its an older thing rather than a sportbike thing. I don't personally know anyone that has luggage on any model ninja bike from the ZX6R, ZX10, ZX12, to the ZX14. I know when luggage is a topic I'll bite my lip from now on

Sooner or later (maybe later for you) the rides begin to get longer than trips to the local Starbucks. Next thing you know you have the maps out and you have scouted out a nice three day 1200 mile ride through the mountain twisties. Thats where the luggage comes in. For me its a tank and tail bag. YMMV

Actually Corbin has (Had now Doug Meyer has it) a ZX12R Turbo that they did about 220 at Bonneville with "Bags" to make it the Fastest Bagster! A ZX14 is more "TOUR" than the ZX12R and I say the following

H2 is still scarring me! I put a tall (Read expandable) tank Bak on my ZX11 and ZX12R along with a couple of bags stacked on back and went for a ride. I had a small Sport rack on the 900 Ninja and the ZX11 but never found anything I liked for the 12. So I used a Rennetech Grab Rail and mounted a Nub on it for e Fold down Back rest for my wife. Most people here have see the 12 set up for the road with a "SOFT" Corbin rear seat and what they would call Soft for the front and lowered Front and rear Peggs and with the Ohlins Shock, and raised by 1.5 inch Billet Top Clamp, we was Comfortable!!

I think they do look a Little tacky, but when you are on the road and the long line of cars stuck behind the truck and you can get them all before the next hill!! Priceless!~

I talked with Chance Darling who rode the green 12 on Corbins web page, the video is shot at Bonneville. The 12 he rode was a n/a big bore bike and he went 185.
I've never heard about a turbo 12 bagger running 220 or so but would love to hear the details, that's my kinda touring rig!

You do nto remember DOugh Meyers Garage Sale?

2001 ZX-12 B1 Vin # 001404 TURBO BIKE
This bike is COMPLETE EXCEPT for two easily replaced major parts groups.
1. All bodywork including headlights
2. Complete front end from the steering stem out except front wheel.
History:
In 2001 Mike Corbin wanted to run a ZX-12 at Bonneville with a set of his Beetle Bags hard saddle bags attached, thereby creating "The World's Fastest Bagger".
Corbin supplied Muzzys with a new 2001 ZX-12 and paid Muzzys to build the bike.
The bike was run at Bonneville that year with me attending to it and ran 219mph on 11 pounds of boost, setting a record, putting the rider into the 200mph club, and achieving Corbin's goal, pretty much right off the trailer. After that run the Innovative electronic boost control failed, and since we had no spare and Corbin had other products to work on, the bike was withdrawn from further competition. I did the tear-down for the record cert., found the engine to be in perfect shape and reassembled it.
Corbin took the bike back to Hollister where it sat for some time. During that period, Corbin removed the bodywork and front end (complete) to build a display for his showroom. Since I had expressed a desire to purchase it at Bonneville, they offered it to me and I purchased it about a year ago. The engine is out of the frame and all connections are clearly labeled for re-assembly. There are no special mods needed to any ZX-12 front end to be fitted.
When originally built, Mike Corbin spent nearly $25,000 on this bike and this was at reduced "sponsorhip" pricing from Muzzys.

I've got the Ventura setup on (or off, mostly..) and it's a great thing to have ,when needed.
It's still a 12R, and it would be great to be mistaken for a cruiser.....

I like the tank bag from http://www.luggagelocker.com/. Being that the 12's "tank" is plastic we don't have much of a choice. I intend to do the Joe Rocket set up for the tail and saddle bags. I like the look of the Beetle Bags but I want to be able to transfer my luggage from bike to bike. I don't know about anyone else but I can't imagine having a bookbag on my back loaded with whatever for 8 hours. I bought my bike to ride long distance...fast!
