I would suggest the usb model. It has a tuning resolution of 250 rpm, vs. 500 for the 3r. When you add the ignition module it allows for extending the rev limit. You can also add the quickshifter, which allows clutchless upshifts.

Keep in mind that you cannot adjust the timing on the usb version without adding the ignition module, or a mechanical advancer. The 3r will allow timing changes.

Also, the usb model is supposed to be more reliable, from what I have heard....

I've had a iiir on my 12 for nearly 7 years, and it has worked great. However, if I had it to do over, I would go w/the USB version even though the total package to get timing cost more. The USB model has add-ons you can't get w/the iiir, and I also think it is more reliable, and offers better tuning features.

I recently bought an '04 12 with a pc3 usb mapped for the full arata and a k&n filter. It runs strong no dips in the power band. I have noticed that after warm up it idles around 1200 rpm, is that typical? Also wondered if it's worthwhile to use a different map for interstate trips for better fuel economy. And what is the benifit (if any) for a street rider to add an ignition module to the usb?

I've been using the BMC race filters for years, and haven't found anything better!

yep, you can load full fuel maps for ea cyl or simply "trim" individ cylinders, OR just use the same map for all cyl like the PC3R

But unless you have the means and patience to actually, carefully, get AF or CO data for ea cyl you'd be shooting in the dark.
