I see no use for this on the 12R. More for the older bikes with carbs....

It does use an O2 sensor which allows it to run closed loop through most of the range, which could make the 12 more fuel efficient, (I know who own a 12 for fuel mileage.)
Then at full throttle it goes to open loop mode for top end.

In a nutsell, what is a MegaSquirt?

that mega looks like a big diy project. i agree with shane maybe from scratch with a carb bike.
look at the mottys afr tuner. read up on posts about it. it even dataloggs for about 2 hours i think.

a full stand alone at a fraction of the price of a Motec has a certain appeal for those wanting to do more on a budget

ive been doing some reading about the megasquirt / microsquirt ecus and im fairly impressed at what they can do... i might even get one. but for 99.99% of 12 owners i dont see much of a point

i heard it can run the stock gauges so that and the fact it does everything else may push me in a new direction. still undecided 1394 on nitrous or....

Now that the ZX12 ECU has been hacked don't see much to gain with the megasquirt. Thanks to Ridge and others You can tune the original ZX12 ECU. ECUs run for 50-200$ on ebay plus some for the programming device and You're good to go. Of course maybe on turbo You have better knowledge about the programming and selection on sensors but normally don't see much to gain..
