Lockup clutch, gearing change, slick Hmm...Bike goes in, stock tire, 18/46 gearing, muzzy drilled clutch hub in a billet clutch basket. With my rudimentary skill and big fat butt, the bike runs 10.09. That's the first time I didn't either spin the tire, or bog the engine horribly, so I think it would easily run in the 9s. But heck, *I* want to easly run in the 9s! So the bike goes up on the lift. Fairings are removed, oil is drained, and off comes the clutch cover. The sound damper plate and rubber is removed, then off comes the spring plate. New parts start going in. I had really planned on taking pics while I was going forward with this, but it's really very straightforward.... I am no mechanical wizard, but I did the clutch in about two hours time...Next, we turned the bike around and put it back up on the lift nosefirst, so we could put a stand under the back tire and pull the wheel. Off goes the hub with the stock 46, and on goes the hub with the 48. We break the chain and after swapping out the stock 18 with a 17, I string the chain and then it's peened. So the overall ratio of the final drive is taken from 2.5555 to 2.8235. A question to anyone running this combo: Do you get into 5th gear with this combo, or cross the line in 4th?

Swft,
Since you are at the top of 4th with 17/46 on a pretty much stock bike I would say your big bore/stroker will be almost perfectly at the top of 5th.

Oh! I had absolutely stock gearing before (18/46).
I'll let ya know how it goes. Next time out is May31/June1. Hopefully, I'll get a good four or five runs in on Saturday.

BTW, I didn't want to cut the bodywork, so I spaced out the right side over half an inch at the back, and about a 1/4 at the front. Underneath, it went back together fine at the front, and I used zip ties to pull the mid and rear of the lowers close to each other. Unless you are actually looking under the bike, you wouldn't know. ____________
