Is Fish asleep?
I'm clueless on why your having this problem. Probably why I'm just a lowly Moderator. I would have thougt Fish would have suggested something by now. E-mail Fish or frEEk and let's see if we can't figure it out.

I think it is a slow modem connection linked with the "who's online" window reloading

its the I.M. feature
Hey MO,
Mine did wierd things too, and I figured out that it was that smaller I.M. window doing it. It will "click" everytime that someone logs in or out. It will also do it even if you have it minimized. I just look at who is on line when I log on, and then I click on the X to completely close this smaller "who's on line" window. This has cured all of my problems. I hope that it will help you too.

have to agree...
...with what I've heard of the problem so far.
zx12girl is correct of course
...although many people arent fortunate enough to live in cable/DSL capable communities.
The simplest fix is to just close the floating who's online window. You can get it back by reloading on most major pages within the site. [which could also result in you having to close it several times per session... but it will save you some time and hassle while you're reading/posting...]
Perhaps down the line, in a newer improved version of the site, we might be able to weave in the ability for people to disable the floating bar in their profile... but right now it's quite hard coded in =)
