Thanks again Gap 3
I just wanted to holler back at everyone and say it was great to see so many friends from previous gap rides as well as make new ones. I personally hadn't been to the gap since the September gap ride, so it was like a blast from the past. The first day was like learning how to ride again especially with a new set of tires. I got to ride Wednesday with Bart, Brian and Redelk, and I had a great time. They are a great bunch of guys and all are good riders. Thursday OldKawboy was the trailboss and he took us into GA to the TWO and then into NC and back through the gap. Again, thanks OldKawboy for a great ride, and to all the guys who rode and made it fun. Thursday night is when Mike got hurt so Friday was spent taking care of the family needs. It truly is amazing when you can feel the love and concern of people all over the country that share the same passion for riding come out and support one another in their times of needs. We are truly lucky to have gotten to know one another through this forum (and others like it).
Saturday I opted not to ride the street bike because I had a motorcross race. I wanted to thank Brian, Bart, Sherman, Dave, Steve, Dino, Dan and his girlfriend for coming down that night to support me. I'm sorry I rode lika squid, it just wasn't my night. After all was said and done, I've torn my ACL and will have to have surgery on it. The Dr. says it will take 6 months to return to normal activity so it looks like dirtbikes are out for the year. Perhaps street bikes can still be part of my physical therapy.
I realize I didn't get to ride with everyone who came down, and I'm sorry for that. It was great to see everyone again, and to meet some new people. Perhaps in September we'll all get a chance to ride together again.
Sherm, I ought to have my tires scuffed in by September and its ASS!
On a serious note though, thank you Sherman for making the name tags, decals and keeping the posts alive! And thanks for the gifts as well.

And I Thank You All To
As most know I am a man of few words so here it is.
I am once again amazed by how simple life can be when people have one thing in common. For us it is riding. With that as the start everything else just doesn't matter.
This is shown in the fact the I found myself taking and spend much time with folks I probally wouldn't.
I don't like hill billies yet I can't remember having a better time then dinner with Rick, Big Mike, Harry, and Chris (Chris is not a red neck).
I also usually don't like going to events like motocross, but when Mark is racing there was not a second thought about attending.
Riding is something that is so very important to all of use that race, creed, religon, etc had no place. It is truely rather amazing. Can you imagine me going to a "HOE DOWN" with Rick and Big Mike. Well I'm looking at flying there for one now.
Finally before I become Red'ish, I want to thank everyone that attended for showing there devotion to our love.
I even got to learn some new speach patterns like.
ASSSH (That means go time)
Fixin (That meanns in the pre-process of doing something)
Set for A Spell (Resting).
And many others not suitable for the family.
Any fucking way that you all for being there and being you.

It was good to see you again Mark, sorry we didn't make it to the races, we wanted to go but by the time we got back from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge it was too late to get there so we went for another trip to the Foothills and the Gap.
Bart, I'm with ya on the learning of Hillbilly speak, I'll be daggawn if I woosn't talking like em and sayin' things like fixin and whatnot. Thems some crazy fuckers in them hills.....

THANK YOU Mark and Melissa. Your hospitality to us and especially opening your home to Mike's family again show your first class people (not that we didn't already think that already).
Roger, you're the man ! THANKS.
Dan, thanks for the tour and hangnin' at dyno time. Say hi to Zack, Chad, and the Mrs. for me, see you all in Daytona ????
Red, good to see you again and thanks for all your help.
Bart, I knew you couldn't see me behind big Mike.
Bfly, glad to see you made it home, hope you abused Bart as much as possible along the way.
DJ, it's a nice bike, even if it's not a 12 .
Steve, good to see you again, thanks for the company. Oh, a TurboBlew story he hasn't even heard. On the way home I stopped for gas in Jax and a guy pulled up and was asking about my bike. He then proceeded to tell me about a bad ass racer with a grey 12, no mirrors, and he thought his name was Steve. Man, what a reputation. I got out of town as quick as I could.
Cabin Boyz - Y'all a bunch of good guys no matter what the Chi town city boy says.
Porch swing stress testing. And that's NOT Pepsi in those bottles(spitoons)

Good to see ALL of you again. Thanks !!

lol, thats a funny story Dave!!
I guess the *stylists* at Kawi Motors need a lesson in color. They actually call the bike *silver* but everyone else identifies it as *grey*...hehe
Those *cabin boys* had the right idea! Those places are pretty cool and would be perfect for the next get together!
I toured the premesis and was pretty impressed...well with the exception of all the empty bottles of Astroglide and used condom packages. Funny, I didnt see a woman within 5 miles of the place!
Otis, Im sorry I didnt get to ride with you guys! I only found out where the cabins were Sunday night. Also me arriving late on Friday didnt help matters much!
Sorry I didnt get to meet everyone!
OldKawboy, it was a pleasure meeting you! You have excellent taste in motorcycle colors!
Redelk, its always a pleasure! But 32,000 miles and the bike looks like it never left the showroom floor!! Wow, Im looking foward to the next 17,000 on my bike (which yours will have 100k by then...lol)

G3 Some thoughts...
First off I'd like to say it was good to see the gang again, an awesome group for sure.
I had an absolute blast just like I knew I would. The bike ran great, and the rides were awesome. How often do you get the chance to lead your buddies through some of the best riding on earth??? It was great running the Gap, Foothills Parkway, The Cherohala Skyway, Hwy 360, Little River Road, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Hwy 151, and hell even the ride on I-40 back from Asheville was pretty damned fun at the clip we had going.
I enjoyed all us guys staying at the cabin, it's an excellent location and I have been staying there for years now. Secluded and off the beaten path a bit, but closer to the ROADS, and really nice for those of us that like to party and have a good time. We partied down for sure, and Chris, Harry, Big Mike and I won't soon forget all the laughter and bullshit that got talked. Man it was a nonstop RIOT I tell you. I think the world of all those guys, and they are fun to ride with.
I'd also like to say it was an honor to have all the visitors stop by and see us. Dave, Bart, TurboBlew, Scooter and his wife, and several others. We all enjoyed the company very much.
Bart,....what can I say man??? You are a trip and I had a lot of fun cutting up with you. I think you may not like rednecks because you don't really know any. We are all about having a good time and laughing or asses of at fuckers like you. Seriously, I had fun man and hopefully we can get together soon. Let me ride that '02 and I'll get those chicken strips off for you, then you will be a "Bigtime Pimp". Keep in touch man, and remember, it's all about you man. (and the shoes)
I'll post more about the trip when I get time. There will also be some NICE pics to post. Once again it was great seeing all of you guys again.

Things I learned at the Gap
1. Friends are forever.
2. No matter how good of a rider one is, no one is invincible.
3. Never cancel a day's ride because of the Weather Channel (and the sun is shinning).
4. The distance between my riding skills and everyone else's has remained the same (I'm still the slowest by an embarrassing large margin).
5. Melissa still grills the meanest steaks in TN and still looks better the girls at Hooters.
6. Even with 8 maps and a GPS, I can still get lost on a road I was on just two days earlier.
7. I'm thankful Lucky only rode his 12R twice since last Sept. That way I could keep him in the same time zone I was in.
8. Brian spends more time on two wheels in his van then I do on my 12R.
9. The weather at 4000' is not necessarily the same as it is at 2500' (or at 5400').
10. There's more to the Atomic Speedway then Late Models and Modifieds.
11. Digital pictures make me look fat (just as any other kind of picture).
12. It's always entertaining to see old kawboy and Lucky debating the direction we should go while comparing which one of them hasn't been in that area the longest.
13. Zack and Gary still takes care of us at AGT.
14. Passing skills are taught daily in Chicago (I think I'll take a bus).
15. Did I mention that friends are forever?
Special messages...
To Bart, Brian and Mark,
All I have to say is, "LAST TO LEAVE THE WALL... FIRST ONE TO THE STORE, BABY!"
The facts that ya'll were held up be a car and a pick-up, pulled over and stopped, the car and pick-up pulled over for me two curves later and then held ya'll up, AGAIN... have nothing to do with it! Just remember who was.... "LAST TO LEAVE THE WALL... FIRST ONE TO THE STORE, BABY!"
To Bart,
Who I will quote, "I couldn't pass you on Cherohala.".
The facts that you were all over me in the curves and if you could have got around, you would have left me in the dust, AGAIN... have nothing to do with it! Just remember who you were talking about when you said, "I couldn't pass you on Cherohala.". The fact that you disappeared after the first stop doesn't count either.
To "Grazer",
Your damn lucky I will miss the Sept. gathering. Even with the additional practice... It still ASS and your MINE! Just get used to it! Maybe next time I'll show how to really WICK IT! Maybe not.

Well, I'm not the most talkitive on here as you can see from my posts even though I've been here forever. And I guess I'm not the most talkitive in person either. Of course, it's hard to get a word in edgewise around Redelk.
BUT!!!! I had one of the best times of my life down there. Meeting, bullshiting, dinner and riding with you guys was THE BEST!!!
I will never go to the GAP without new tires again. I couldn't believe that in two days my tires went from half worn to slick.
Lucky, heal well man.
What I learned most was motorcyclists make great friends and you should never ride alone.

great idea
Ninjaman, can you give me the name and number and info to call about the cabins. We can see what weekends are open for all the cabins at one time in September or even October for Gap 4.
Bart, you need to rent the movie Deliverance before you come and stay in the cabins. Here's two new red neck sayings for you, "Let me hear you squeal like a pig" and "You sure have a pretty mouth, boy." I'm sure Harry will be happy to explain it to you because I'm sure that Mike and Rick taught Harry what it meant country style. Now Harry knows a new meaning to the word "high side" and "front end push". LOL The next time you hear "Hoedown" be sure to look around and make sure your sister hasn't fallen.
By the way Bart, there is a Clayton Volvo here in Knoxville that is in a very nice part of town (next to the BMW). Check them out, if we can get you to move down here then we'll really have the time to work with you and get your right.
Tell Brian and all the Chicago mafia hello. I'm sure Brian kept you up driving back with the 6 hotdogs he ate. haha No gas stops were needed where they.

had a great time, though we were usually much slower thqan the rest and ended up way out of touch with the group. but hey such is life.
nothing like ordering 'road kill' friday night, i kept the receipt, the hillbillies i work with are amused by it.
"hey ya'll watch this!!" <-- never forget when you hear these words, take cover...
also for alternative places, ron & nancy rent a cabin about a mile from cherohala skyway on 143. very central location to just about anything. 10 or so people can fit comfortably, more if you don't mind sleeping bags on floor.
o well, had a great time, will post photos when developed. (tonight i go to nashville for just that purpose)
laters!
PS: lucky, sorry didnt make it to your race we were at top of clingmans dome and realized it was too late to make it over. hope you get better soon. you and mike both.

The great thing about it that you get 30 people together whom are all different, different areas of the country, different backgrounds, different income levels, different philosophies on life and when we're all together we sit around and bullshit like we've been friends since highschool and we're all on the same page. That's what I like about it.

Like Red Elk, I won't be able to make it to Gap 4. But I already miss you guys. The good news is that my wife actually opened the door a crack to the possibility of me getting anopther ZX-12. If I'm lucky enough, maybe even Lucky's bike. It'll take some hard work on my part to make it happen, but BOY!!! am I motivated.
So here's hoping that at GAP 5, I'll be back down on the CORRECT bike.
Ride safe, guys.
Lucky and Mike, heal fast.

Lucky,
Just wanted to let you know how appreciative my freinds and I are to you and your wife for being such gracious hosts for DG3. Each of my friends: Rick ('85 Honda), John (ZX-11) and Phil (broken clavicle) called me after getting home to make sure I thanked you on their behalf for a great time. We are already making plans to return in July with an even bigger group coming down this time.
I would be remiss if I failed to mention Sherman for his generosity with the stickers and namebadges and of course irrepressable personality. It says alot about a person to do something for someone they have never met. Thanks Sherman!
I'll look forward to seeing you guys again soon for DG4. Hopefully HPMike will attend riding or not. Glad to hear he's recovering and still wants to ride.
I'm also glad we didn't get kicked out or mar the group's rep after firing up our bikes in the hotel room! (Oops! Did I say that out loud?)
Thanks again. You guys are awesome!

I would also like to thank Redelk for the Gap 3 stickers and our name tags. I wouldn't mind sending a few bucks his way to pay for his expense and trouble. Anyone else interested in helping out our buddy Sherm?

Yes, send lots of money!
Here the address I want EVERYONE to send money...
Mike Chestnut Fund
C/O Cindy Smith
412 Grandview Ave.
Feasterville, Pa. 19053
Or through Pay Pal at grandview10@hotmail.com
I guess I'll have to sent the Gap 4 decals to Ballistic, since I won't be able to make it. I hate that I'm going to miss it, but our political season will be in full swing at that time. The nice part is that over 75% of our canidates/clients won in the recent primary. That means they'll be getting more signs, banners, t-shirts and such. Smells like... like... MONEY!
