Common Problem, anyone??
the bike is a 2000 12, I have had since 1400 miles it now has 9500 roughly a years time. I was out riding one day pulled up to a local hang out spot cut the bike off put the kick stand down and was sitting on the bike a buddy came by with a proposition to take a ride somewhere else i accepted so with out standing the bike up or putting my feet on the ground i tried to shift my weight with my feet on the peg so the bike was in a standing position and starting...didn't work but i succeeded in resetting the club and instantaniously killing the battery(wtf??!?) had to push start the bike it started right up but the battery would not charge took it home turned the bike off and back on attempted to restart bike nothing. took it to the shop they were stumped they now have me in the part buying stage. The shop said everything was giving the right numbers i first replace the battery it continued to give me the same problem listed above I took it back they had me replace the rectifier they charged the battery i was release was out riding some where between 80 and 90 mph @approx.6k rpm the bike would jerk I took it in for the night turned the bike off and for s&g decided to see if i could restart the bike no problems the whole night aside from the jerking and guess what the bike wouldn't start clock reset....WTF??!?!?! I returned to the bike the next morning and rode it back to the mechanic and turned the bike off went inside and was talking decided to go back out side to see if i could restart the bike guess what it wouldn't start and now they are talking about having me buy a main wire harness please someone anyone please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing going on here that can't be solved with an ohmeter and a manual.
Electrical problems are almost impossible to diagnosis over the internet or phone.
Get out your ohmeter and manual and start at the beginning. Also, make absolutely certain you have a good battery. More than one guy has gone bald due to a battery with shorting plates. I had a one month old battery short out once. It would work fine sometimes and not other times. Just depended on if the plates vibrated together.
If your shop is stumped and has YOU buying parts to exercise the process of elimination, find a new shop. A mechanic worth his salt will track down your problem and won't have to replace the entire electrical system doing so.

My 12's stator went out. The wires where the copper coated and the insulated wires meet had shorted and burned away. I was able to repair them to get running and they warrantied a new stator. This was a known problem. The ohm meter sometimes can't pick it up because the wires short out and the readings look good.

The stator problems (thats the "oil in the stator connector") subject you may remember reading so much about was specific to A models as far as I can remember. My A1 has never leaked, others have been through multiple stators. Color me blessed?
You can check the regulator/rectifier output voltage. You'll want to do it with the headlight both on and unplugged.
At idle it should be putting out right at 12.2V DC, as the rpm increases it will go up to 14.2 ~ 15.2V DC. It either is or it ain't.
The full procedure is in the manual. It doesn't take long to check.
