Low rpm hesitation

Experiencing a low rpm(off idle to about 3500 to 4000)...Like when leaving a stop light to get going,it just kinda flutters, then boom she gets up and goes....Mods are Muzzy S/S full sys.P/C3,18/49 gearing, stock filters for now,(on order),installing the K&N's, I think might help the problem?????Tip of the pipe is sooty....Was setup by previous owner for all out dragrace....I want it for street/strip....
Thanks,
Paul.....

This sounds like the typical muzzy flat spot. Mine is flat untl about 2500 rpm. Then the power spike will attempt to highside you (if temps outside are less than 40 degrees). According to Doug Meyer it can be tuned out.

I have tried two different maps (one Muzzy supplied and the other a custom$$ Map). Both are flat until 2.5-3k. But it does sound great and scream on top....

I have the Muzzys map in mine too...Do you have some after market filters and did it help at all.....I usually rev. it up past the flat spot on takeoff sometimes anyways...But if I don't i have to feather the clutch a little bit more than usual...
Thanks......

I can email you a good map that made 178 hp on the dyno, with K&N's. I just cleaned my K&N's and ran 184.6 mph at Maxton with 187 mph gearing (I am 225+gear). Pm your email and I will send it to you....

Mine is advanced +4 across the board, and the flat spot is still very pronounced. The map was done by Doug Ray at Spencercycle (for another '02 with k&N's...and it still had the flat spot, just as mine).

I would venture to say that out of 50 people, only 2 or 3 have tuned that flat spot out. I am not going to debate it....it is what i have seen. If you are one of the lucky ones, congrats!

And for the record, I still love my Muzzy...flat spot and all.

Muzzy = flat spot. Mine has always been like that. Unless you're doing lots of riding in the twisties and need throttle control to be 100% perfect all the time I say screw it, you bought the 12 to go fast, not putt around @ 3-4k.

Nice sig, btw.

A.

When I ride to work(as much as possible),I have to do alot of city stop and go.I also have been having a problem with idle, only fouling out the plugs.Mine is probably a mapping problem but am interested if you find something else.

DO NOT ADVANCE TIMING VIA THE PC3R. the bike doesnt like it. Use the ignition advance rotor to advance timing, it works way better. Advancing with the pc3r doesnt do sh**

Stuart Race,
What year is your bike?
That flat spot can absolutely be tuned out of a 2000/2001. I'll be happy to send my map to anyone who wants it.
Supra, What the hell you talkin' man? Advance is advance no matter whether you move the trigger or adjust the map.

NOW you are getting somewhere! We ALL would like to see someone with the Flat Spot removed. Let us know how much better it is when installed.

supra,
maybe yr PC3r is faulty???

2 years ago i did multiple pulls on JohnnyCheese's DJ250 trying all sorts of ign timing variations and like Y2K said, 5's on the PC3R was worth 3-4 hp.

Two weeks ago on a FactoryPro dyno Andy did tests at 0, 5, 7 and got the same gains with 5's that JC did 2 years ago.

What I am referring to is the Pipe Brock Has is made by Hindle and even though the Basic Configuration is the same (4-2-1 step tubes) the Lengths of the primaries and the divider plate are totally different and I have "ZERO" Flat Spot and as a matter of fact I have an increase in torque and HP between 2,000 and 5,000 over the Akrapovich I had. The bike wants to wheelie over bumps at 2,500. WHen sitting still and you turn the throttle and try to hold 2,500 the engine will try to race to 3,500 like a mini Power band.

If DOug says he has a Map that can remove the Flat Spot then that is exactly what you want. Hopefully the removal will not cost power below and above your flat spot to make it dissapear but actually bring the dip up to the rest of the power curve

Aaaahhh, I got what your saying...I like the thought of a MINI power band as long as it's managable,it's not right now.....
We'll see what transpires when I get the Map...Thanks for the input Vincent...
