FI Light, motor stalling while cruising???
The guy who bought my 2000 model 12R called me this morning and asked me if I ever had a problem with the bike stalling while going down the road. I never did encounter that in the 6 years that I owned the bike, but thought I'd try to help the guy out and see if anyone could shed some light on the problem. He says that he can be cruising along at 75-85mph and the FI light comes on and the motor is instantly dead, if he lets off the throttle the engine comes back to life. If he tries to open the throttle further, it still stays dead. He says the bike has done this 6 or 7 times now, but runs strong, and appears to have no pattern with this. It started a while back then went a couple weeks running fine with no FI light. It did it 4 times in a row yesterday, then never missed a beat the rest of the day.
My initial thoughts were that it was the power commander, but he says he has talked to another guy with a 2000 model 12R that has the same problem from time to time on a stock bike. I don't recall hearing of any problems like that. Anyway, I'd at least like to help narrow the problem down for the guy if possible. He has checked most all the electrical connections on the bike, thinking that there may have been a loose connection. But everything has checked out so far.
Any ideas??????????????????????????

The problem that caused the FI light remains stored in the ECU even after the light goes out. There is a wire under the seat that if Grouded correctly will produce a coded sequence of lights that can be decoded if the guy has a manual. If not, if he can say what the code is, I am sure someone with a manual can decode for him.
I feel this is a good place to start looking.

Check the code, the ECU knows what's wrong and will tell ya for free.
