Metzler M-1 tires

Are they any good? I'm thinking about getting a set. I'm going to try a 180 on the rear. Is $280 a good price mounted, balanced and tax included?

I installed my M-1's today (200 rear). I've always used Metzelers. I was planning on it for several months but wanted to finish off the MEZ's. I called Kent Kunitsugu the other day and asked him what he thought of them (they recently did a tire test), he said "bitchin' tire" and recommended it very highly (highest for the street actually) the Michelen and the Rennsport really being track tires (little or no wet capability). I'll keep you posted.

Rear Tire

He has a 180 and 190 in stock.I've had a 190 before. Should I go with 180 or 190?
I guess they're good tires. The guy that is selling them to me says they are the best tires he's ever had on his GSXR 1000.

190 or if possible the 200. Tell your dealer Parts Unlimited has them.

what's the wear? i was about to go for the 010 largely cause of the good price and good wear, coupled with reportedly good performance. i definitely wasnt a street tire, so if this is a better street performer & gives decent wear, i'll give em a shot

frEEK...if you're on a budget, may I suggest the 010?...I'm no expert, but I have approximately 4000+ hard miles on some pretty abrasive roads with my heavy ass on the bike (38r/36f psi) and its finally starting to show some aggressive wear...the centers are more durable than the 207...I'd have to install a new 207 rear by this point cuz' it got too thin in the middle while the sides had at least another 500~800 miles to go...

the 010 gives me the best bang and feedback for my buck...of course, a wildman such as yourself with wild-ass riding style may not get the miles I'm getting, but your relative 'feather-weight' might be condusive to better mileage with the 010 (= less $ spent) than the 207...

I do notice that the 010 are a little squirrely out front under hard braking, however...I'm installing a new set this weekend (better safe than sorry ) before I head out on my B-Day Roadtrip and will make note of the zero-miles and see how much/far this the 010 goes with me and my semi-aggressive street riding-style...woohooo!!!I'm outta' control!!!!

thx nano...i think. not sure if i got more information or dissin outa that post

i'm not sure if my dealer even stocks the M1s, so i'll prolly go with the 010. i'll admit the sqirley braking doesnt make me feel too good. i do like to attempt the odd stoppie, and i wonder what that would do to my already less than controlled attempts. but really i come back to the realization that i dont ride nearly as well ro aggressivly as many others here who have installed and liked 010s. so they oughta work for me

010s kick ASS !!!!

Even though I just wasted an 010 rear in 600 miles, (Well it still has some life in it, but would never survive one day at the gap.) I must admit that I have been very impressed with the 010s. They work very well, and even at max lean angles they feel very planted. I got improved milage out of my rear tires when I switched from the 207s, and also got better grip. The dual aligned compound works. The bike became WAY more confidence inspiring. IMHO it's probably the best "Bang for Buck" tire out there. Everyone that I know who runs them really like them a lot. Most Gixxer 1k guys speak highly of the 010s ability to do it all. You have to push the bike really hard to get these things to act up, but like all tires they have their limitations. I've drifted my front tire a few times but it wasn't anything bad considering I was all the way over and pushing hard on a somewhat cold tire. I've had the rear step out on me ever so slightly when whacking on the gas hard, and early , on exits. But none of these instances compare to some of the "Oh Shit" moments I had with the 207s. It only did enough sliding that you noticed it, but didn't sweat it because it wasn't scary. The 207s scared me a few times, and that ain't good.

I'd like to try some Pilot Sports out. Laidover has them on his 12 and I'm gonna ride it again when we get back from the gap and kinda see what they feel like. The thing I keep hearing is that they take longer to get warmed up, and are harder to keep warm. I dunno.

Tested my M-1's last night. I love 'em. I had to adjust my lines because I was "oversteering" due to the extra front grip. I guess I was pushing the front more than I thought.
Excellent roll in, no stand up on the brakes. I'm a trail braker so transition on and off the brakes is real important to me. They are perfect (for me). For those that didn't see the MOTORCYCLIST TV test the ranking was (I think):
Mich H12 ? First track tire
Metz Rennsport Second track tire
Metz M-1 First street/ track tire
Brigestone
Dunlop

hmmm...decisions decisions.
i think i tend to put alot of weight on the front in corners, maybe too much. i just feel like the front end isnt planted enough unless i really get my body up over the tank on corners. this results in a rear tire that has very little wear on the sides (alwyas wears out in middle or just past middle first), and a front with TONS of rubber in the middle despite plenty of hard braking, but sites that have nothing left. by your review doug, i'm almost tempted o try the M1s up front and a 010 out back. some people say this is bad idea, some say it's fine. i dont have enough experience to really have an opinion.
but again, maybe it's a mute point. my bike is goin in for service sat, and i doubt my dealer stocks the M1. they stock mostly dunlop, and while i'v been pretty happy with them, theyy just wear way too fast, & i dont like the way they feather so bad. seems there is tons o wear left if they jsut wore more evenly. call me a cheapskate; hey, i'm half scottish after all

fReek,
Mixing is definitely a no-no. Remember, the tire guys put a hell of a lot of R&D into developing a PAIR that works. Methinks you aren't likey to do better.

i would tend to think the same thing doug. i guess it's just one of the issues that people aren't unified about. i talked to one of the parts guys at my dealer a week ago and his opinion was it's ok as long as ur careful and test the combos. if it doesnt work well, be prepared to get a new tire immediately. his main precaution was to get a simialr tread design front and back. makes sense to me. certaily racers seem to like trying mix & matching to suit their particular bike & style. certainly, i wouldnt even play with it if i were a hard rider, but since i take it relatively easy (relative to the capabilities of the bike) i give myself a little more leeway. in all honesty, i woudl rpefer to have them match, but i'm at a position now where my tires will not come up near replacement at the same time. so for the 4000kms or so that i have left on my rear (it only has 1 or 2 on it now i think), i think i'll go for the 010 on the front, leaving the 207 on the back. i'd just throw another 207 on the front, but it usually lastst me a good 9000kms, so i'd have to go for another 207 on the rear, which i dont particularly want to do. altho... ah, i dont know. i'll see. maybe it would make more sense to do it at once. maybe my mileage will even work out such that i can grab a new set of tires at laguna (liek i didnt do last year). but i doubt ill get that much ridin in before that.

why am i still writing? is anyone still ready this self indulgent brain farting? wazza wrong wit u?!? damn, am i writing this aloud? where's my medication? i thought i put it hear somewhere....

Well I've had the M1's on for about 400 miles now. They are great. Love'm a lot. Don't know about wear but cold, hot, dry, wet so far have all been easy to ride them.

had a rather interesting discussion with parts guys at the dealer today, along with fish & PK (who followed me out there. more on that later i'm sure ). they had heard good things abotu the M1s also (and they stock them), but nothing beyond the published reviews i think. anyhow, i mentioend that i wanted the 010's, and he brought up a very good point, namely that our climate is so cold up here that the 010 would not be a good choice due to it's hard compound. said that all the tests that rated it highly were done in hot areas. late this eve, i mentioedn this to buddy north of us who has the 010s mounted for a while now, and he says that while he really likes them, they do take quite a while to heat up.

so now i'm back to thinking M1. prices are about the same as the 207, slightly more than the 010s and less than the pilots. so i'm left with the burning question that noone can answer (cause they'r so new) of how do they wear? parts guy's answer is that traditionally metzlers are good for wear, but no idea abotu the M1. if they get similar wear to the 010s, then i think i'll go with the M1s in a couple months time when i'll need to swap the tires out for laguna. but if they'r gonna be like the 207s and last about long as a 16 year old boy, then i'll try the 010s anyway.

damnit, these things are never simple.

harry, The place I ordered mine from (online) screwed up the order. So, I faxed them the order as the total price is $244.00, the best that I've seen (the rear is a 200). Plus, when I phoned them, they said the did not do overnight orders- ground only. I just hope I get them at this price.
