48T sprocket users...
Well, I knew the sprocket on my new bike looked a little strange--turns out it's a 48T! This isn't stock, correct? If so.....wtf? I was begining to wonder why I turn around 6K at 80mph.

I couldn't fit a 48 tooth rear on my stock chain with the 18 up front....I mean it ALMOST fit but couldn't get enough chain around it....
I presume 17/48 would fit the stock chain?

Wow, will the stock bike pull a 45T? Seems like that would free up a little on the top end.
I'll have a look at th sprocket again today, perhaps it is a 46? I just thought it odd that it's that a stock bike has a sprocket roughly the size of Texas on it!

A stocker will pull a 42-44 tooth just alright too. Might pull a little better if ya had a little juice.

48 teeth
I've got a nice little ZX12R speed calculator program that you can change your sprocket sizes and it tells you what speed you can do in each gear. I can send it to you if you like.

ok, I'm running 17/48! How much will this affect the speedo/odo? Would it be advisable to go back to stock gearing?

I had to run a 18/42 combo to get an accurate speedo reading on the Dyno!
Get a SpeedoHealer.

wow, those things are a little on the pricey side (speedohealer). Does anyone know how to calculate the error from stock?

I'd like to run a 18/42 to get the speedo right and a couple more mpg, but I barely have enough pull in first gear as it is. I can't always get the front wheel up with just the throttle if I'm leaning forward. How is your power, Psycho?
Oops, I got a ZX-14, guess I wasn't paying attention. Sorry

Ya might need Robinson's Low First to get that front tire up with that 42 on the back........But if your as heavy as I am you'd just need to shift your arse to the back a little!!!!!!!!!

I liked the 17/48 on the street.I might have lost some top end,but I never saw over 180 on the street anyways.Gas milage sucked but more fun.I have a yellow box on mine and well worth the peace of mind when going past a radar trap plus the odometer stays true to the engine. You're talking about buying 2 more sprockets which aren't cheap,I'ld recommend having the yellow box.
