Inner clutch spring removal
Has anyone tried building the pack without the inner clutch spring? Is the purpose for this spring just for clutch pack noise?
I am thinking about using all large fibers and removing the inner hub spring,,,,,,,,

I don't have that spring on mine anymore cause I roached the little inner fiber. Didn't notice a difference with it set up the way it is now.

Hey Doug,
I thought just about everybody been removing those "chatter" springs & 1/2 fibre plate since the Suzook 1100 days. I know just about everyone with 12's & busas in the chicagoland area(at least the drag racers) removes those chatter springs so they can use a full fibre, if they need to replace their plates. I could never hear any difference with those springs removed, & why not have the most friction area possible available?

WHy Why Why,,,,,,,,that is the question!!! hahaha Actually, i am having a double slippage issue that i am trying to solve. The bike feels like the chain is jumping on the sprokets. So in trying to figure out if the chain is too stretched and mis-aligning with my sprokets verses the clutch slipping and grabbing i started searching. So, when i took my clutch apart, i noticed that my inner most steel had a few blues when all the others (even the middle ones) did not have any, i began to think about why i would need that spring to open that inner steel with the inner little fiber? and was wondering if it can be removed without any issues!?

I have removed mine, I had a small fiber break on me and it caused a strange wear in my Hub, dont know if anyone rembers me talking about a weird noise in my clutch area, well that seemed to be the problem, the new fiber/springs were binding and clicking in there? weird but I have been running it without the small fiber or chatter spring's ever since, seems to work good for me..

also RA, you will hear your chain if it is jumping on the sprocket, you will hear the click, click, under extreme load. if your just feeling it being weird then I doubt it is your chain popping or skipping a tooth.

The '02 comes with two springs, one in the back, and one in the middle. I've had problems with the skinny inner clutch plate breaking. I think I'll skip putting it in next time.

Mike, I am hearing a noise and it only happens under extreme load. It does 2 clucks and jerks each time and only two per acceleration. I know that my chain stretched at least 3 notches on the swing arm and i even had to take out a link so i could get the chain tight again. So, i am going to go with a different chain this time.

dude if your chain has streched that far YOU NEED A NEW ONE!! man dont take the chance on something really bad happening, with a part that cost's around 150 bucks man. get a new one I use the Tsubaki Sigma and even all of the dragracing that I do it hasent streched at all. maybe 1/4 of an inch maybe.

Yep,
I am running a RK non O ring chain, and I now have a set of ceramic bearings installed. Its pretty impressive to see how far the rear wheel will spin when the bike is sitting on the stand, but the difference on the track hasn't exactly been dramatic.
Weather changes, state of my clutch, and the number of pieces of Popeye's chicken (spicy) I had on the way to the track seem to be have a larger impact than tweaks like the chain and bearings.
I'm not saying that the chain and/or ceramics doesn't help the mph.ET, it 's just subtle. I need all the help I can get.

well, i was definitely changing the chain when i came to the conclusion about my chain condition. I will try a different chain this time as i am using a D.I.D. and a RK or something, but both were the hight tensil strength and they all stretched right away. Really pissed me off! I am going to remove the spring also and see how it feels!

The Results
Well, it definitely was the chain whick caused the problems! So i went with a non-o ring tsubaki HQR. Also, I must say that my clutch is now as SMOOTH as a babies bottom with the little fiber and inner spring replaced with a full fiber.........Tried and tested against a good rider on a built busa tonight!!! I would like to call the removal of the inner clutch chatter spring and little fiber the "ra12r mod". This mod stops that GRABBYNESS of the pack. Thanks to all of you in advance!
