Aux power locations? + Hi from newguy
I am mounting radar on my ZX-12r and was considering the addition of a GPS unit for longer trips. (Escort 8500 with the hard wire kit and a Garmin V)
Anyone want to share their power routing? I ran two wires directly from the battery out the side and rear along with the existing wires. Then up the back side of the tank over the airbox to where the wires make a Y. I think I can reasonably use that as a main aux power supply.
Anyone else done this? Suggestions?
(This is the part where I kiss ass to get good answers and not get flammed)
This board seems really great and everyone is so nice and knowledgable. I hope I get the chance to meet some of you this summer. I would join you all at the Gap but I already have a trips planned for the end of May and mid September.
Just got my 12r and am enjoying the personalization process. I removed all the decals and have a very expensive list of parts I am hiding from my wife.
See ya

If you pull off the rubber fuse box cover, the blue/white wire on the right harness (I think it is the last left wire on the bottom set of wires on this harness) is marked as the switched accessory line. You could have tapped this wire, and ground, and your detector would go on when you turned on the key.
This is the line I tapped for my A/F meter and heated O2.

one of the fuses in the fuse box is unused. i used that one for my radar power supply. i believe it is always on, if memory serves me correctly. i like using that lead because it keeps things looking fairly stock; no extra leads to track down etc

Unless you have a 2002, looks like they used the accessory fuse for the second cooling fan.

You could wire it in with the horn circuit, it has a 10A fuse.
