Michelin Pilot Sport HPX
Anyone know anything about these tires? I've been running the Pilot sports and love them. I got a piece of glass in my rear tire and it's now flat Tire still had about 1/2 usabel tread left on it :mad
I can get another pilot sport for $155.00 but the HPX is $189. Is it worth the extra $35? Is it a harder tire that will give a little longer milage? I'm averaging about 3000 miles / set of tires.
Here is some info I got from kneedraggers.com site. They are the only ones that I could find that had any difference noted.
Michelin Pilot Sport HPX
Evolved from the Pilot Sport, but specifically designed for hypersport bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa, Kawasaki ZX-12 and Honda CBR 11100XX.
Engineered with a particular emphasis on high-speed stability, The rear Pilot Sport HPX has been certified by European authorities for speeds up to 200 mph* (320 km/h).
Special tread compound developed for sustained high speeds.
What's your thoughts?

Same thing Kneedraggers said.

Last saturday I've got one fitted. Didn't do much riding since then, but next tuesday I'm gonna take it to the track (Assen, NL) and probably will experience if its a better tire than the D207. Although I wasn't really displeased with it, just wanted to try something else.

I think it is a harder compound. One of the guys at Labusas put a rear HPX on his 'Busa and complained about lack of grip. He eventually had to lower the pressure lower than normal to get the grip he was accustomed to.

Called to order the regular pilot sports and was told that they can no longer get straight pilot sports in 200. Only in HPX now. Shit....that's another $35 for the tire.

From what I understand...
The difference is that the HPX has a steel belt in it like the 200 D207. Having run non-steel belted tires for almost a year (190 & 180), I'd say that it's not worth it. Hell, IMHO the cost of any 200 ain't worth it.
