Hmmm??? trade the '01 in for and '02, or not to trade...
I went for a ride on my green '01 this Saturday. When I got home from my ride I stood in my driveway and stared at my bike for a while. As I stared at it, I thought about how much I enjoyed the ride and how much I enjoyed riding this bike in general. I thought about how well it ran and performed. I than began to think about how much I really like the Green color. I even like the decals that come on the '01 green ZX-12's. Man, I really like the green color - even if my female significant other doesn't. I even kind of liked the look of the stock pipe on the thing. The titanium is starting to turn this shade of yellow chrome and looks good on the green 12. Don't get me wrong the stock can is still going to go. While I stared at the bike I thought about how nice it will look when I get done with some mods I plan on doing. When I finished pondering all these things I said to myself "Man there is no way I'm going to get rid of this thing for a new '02. That would be crazy. Why would I want to do that? And just think of the monetary lost that would be involved."
After all this I put the bike up and walked into my place. At that moment the issue was settle as far as I was concerned. Then I went and read more reviews on the '02 last night. They made the '02 sound irresistible in a few reviews (Motorcycle Online and Motorcycle Daily). The next thing you know I got this crazy idea about trading the '01 in for a '02 swimming around in my head again. I will say however that the erg isn't as powerful as it has been. This is mostly due to the fact that I'm not as enamored by the blue color of the new blue '02. At first I thought that that blue was it. Then after a while it started looking like smurf blue to me. In the end, no mater what I do, I still like the color scheme of my green '01 way better than anything else (the silver is a very close 2nd and the new red a not too distant 3rd). You can't get the '02 in green or silver (what a shame) and that is a big strike against getting an '02. Still the idea persist.
To trade in (or sell) for the '02 or not to trade, that is the question.....???

Do this...........
Before you do anything try and get a ride on somebody's '02 model. You may be surprised in what you find. Different strokes for different folks.
I rode a friends '02 model this weekend and I will make a few comments about it. If you like wheelies, I don't think the '02 is your bike. I has a softer ride than the older models and does seem to turn in a little easier, but nothing drastic. Ergos are definitely more aggressive on the new bike, I noticed that right away. It seems to be a good bike, but It just feels more docile than the '00 model to me. For some that may be a good thing, for hooligans like me it isn't. I would definitely pick it as the better bike in stock form to take to the strip. The fronend stays down very well and you don't have to baby it like you do the older bikes. I noticed that as soon as I hit the gas on the thing.
Like I said it's all in what you want, see if you can get a ride on one.

Not being sexist or anything...
But... Guys will change something because the old thing "just doesn't do it" for them any more. Sometimes for the better, oftentimes for the worse.
Change for the sake of change. We all do it (we tend to get bored with our toys rather quickly), it keeps us in constant state of novelty.

Don't Drive the 02
All I can say is if you drive the 2002 you will buy one, it flat out that much better of a bike.

I did.....
I did "Ride" one Bart. It's a nice bike, but not what I thought it'd be, no disrespect intended. IMHO it is a more docile bike, but for some that is a good thing. I liked it, just not as much as I like my '00, and I really thought I'd get on it and fall head over heals for it. Didn't happen, and I'm glad because I'd more than likely went out and bought one. I'm glad you like yours though, that's all that counts.

Although I highly recommend against it you could just crash your old one and buy a new one. Worked for Bart and I.

Never crash it yourself, insurance goes up to much. Now if its stolen and found wrecked no hits on you. I am not in any way shape or form saying this is a good or even legal thing to do, but works.
