Considering selling my 12
I am thinking of selling my 12. I have a 7 year old daughter that I do not get to spend enough time with due to a divorce. (joint custody) I think that if I sell my 12 and get a wave runner I could take her and my new wife out camping on weekends and play on the wave runner. (Kawasaki ZXI 1100 with Nitrous?)and get my adrenalin pumping with some 70 MPH fun (not fun after going 186 weekly!). We all 3 could ride on it and I could pull my daughter on a tube ect.
I know it will kill me to not have a bike because I tried to go without one for almost a year and I was miserable, I have always had a bike since I was about 10. that's 24 years of 2 wheel fun.
I do not get to ride my 12 as much as I used to ride my nine due to many uncontrollable variables and I think I could get more use from the wave runner and use that to spend more time with my family. And due to work I will not make it to the gap again this year! This really burns my ass!!!!! I will be rewiring Phones \ LAN \ WAN for 400 people in our new building while you are all at that gap.
Will the wave runner fill the missing 12's gap????

Nope.....
I don't think it will fill the gap UNLESS you live on beachfront property. If you don't then it means trailering to the water everytime you get ready to ride.
But in a way it's kind of a moot point, if you want to spend more time with your daughter then that's what I'd do. If the jet ski will make that happen for you then I say go for it. But if you could keep the 12 AND get a jet ski you could have your cake and eat it too. Used jet skis are pretty reasonable, and during the off-season you can usually find some great deals.
How close to Tennessee are you, I can more than likely hook you up with a good deal, a good friend of mine is a dealer.

Alan,
We do what we have to for our family and no one can fault you for that. You will miss the 12....like you I have been riding since I was 9 years old and one year my bike was stolen from outside my apartment.
I went a year without one because I refused to buy another one until I had a house and garage. That year I was miserable. I don't think it's necessarily how much I ride it's the fact that whenever I decide to ride I can.
I understand what you are saying about work I'm also work in I.T. for a large hospital.
I might suggest trying to have both. See if you can find a used waverunner and keep the 12.
Whatever you decide to do it will be the right choice for you!!
Later,

First off, they are called Jet Ski's
Why not ride with your daughter? They (I don't know the name) make a harness that attaches the child to the rider. It looks like a pretty trick piece. Worst case scenario, get a more friendly "2 up" bike. Used JET SKI's (there is that word again) are fairly cheap (with trailer) so I don't know why you couldn't do both.
It is a fine line between being selfish, and being, well, for lack of a better word, an idiot. Life is short, and you will never have this time back. You need to make time for yourself (for mental sanity). Also, if you are not there for your daughter as she is growing up, a bond will be missing that the both of you will be longing for, for the rest of your life. Hard choices to make. Compromise is good.
Good luck.
