Best place for parts?
Hey guys,
Long time no visit. I've been away from the bike scene for a while playing with the Cobra (now gone due to new baby). I think this is my first post in at least a year.
I was out on the bike (2000 ZX-12R) Friday and had a collision on the way home from work.
I came around a left hand sweeper at a "swift" rate of speed and there were three turkey vultures feeding on a dead carcass.
As soon as I saw them, I started to slow down afraid I would hit one.
One went left, one went down range, and the other flew right into my path.
We hit pretty hard and it stood me up, but I didn't go down.
The bird was about 20 - 30 lbs with a 7 foot wing span. Huge bird!
It hit hard enough that it collapsed my left mirror and smashed in my faring. It actually moved the cowling brace (what the mirrors and gagues mount to) about 3 - 4 inches inwards.
The amazing thing is that it didn't break or crack any of the body work or my zero gravity wind screen.
I checked with the stealer and the part is about $290 new. I'm thinking about removing the part and seeing if I can bend it back into place. Being aluminum, I'm not sure how it will work.
So, my question is where is the best place to get parts for our bikes now days... or does anyone know of a wrecked 00 ZX12 that has a good bracket. I'm looking for part 39184 - 1084, BRACKET-ASSY,METER&MIRROR.
Any help you guys can offer I greatly appreciate!
Thanks
I'll try to post a picture of the part I need.

It's the Y looking part on the right center

The fairing stay is actually pretty easy to bend back inot shape.
Wrap it to protect the paint and then stick a piece of pipe over the end and bend it back into shape. Measure carefully and move slowly.
I didn't think it would bend back easy but one night I was talking to Gunner and he had been through it, and sure enough they are pretty soft...

The end where the mirrors attach are brittle though. I tried to bend it back and ended up snapping the end off.

Mine was bent at the curve, but I certainly agree with what you are saying. If it's a tight bend or at the end aluminum isn't too forgiving.
