Re: idle

GOZR...ZX12R has wild cams from the factory. It will idle OK with stock exhaust. Aftermarket pipes will often cause "idle hunt"? -ZXtra

Is idles like shit with an aftermarket exhaust, and even worse at higher altitudes until the ECU has been replaced with the high alt. ECU. But it kinda sound cool, and gets attention at stop lights when people look at the bike and it has the loping idle, the light turns green and it's off like a bat out of hell. Then people know why the idle is like that.

It idles pretty good if you have an Akropovic exhaust on it.That's just one of the reasons I went with the Akro.

Sorry Harry,

idle is not good with an akro too..idle waving between 100-200 rpm.
i've the titanium akro pipe, tmh filters, kleen air removed, not any pc3.
the idle hunt is still ALIVE...
question is the pc3 solved this problem, i wonder ??? either you're very lucky harry

idle hunt

Zxtra hit the nail on the head... its the duration and overlap of the cams. Its the nature of the beast.

Its not a bad thing. If you had cams that idled like a cbr600 F3 then you would loose many HP.

When someone that knows anything at all about high performance engines hears the rumpity rump idle at a stop light they know whats up.
People pay big dollars to get gsxr1100's to make 180hp and have an idle like that. Enjoy what the factory gave us!

Yes hahahahaha!!
I have a Mussy titanium on it ....great low sound ..
I have also a Gixxer 1100 1987 with Mussy and i have the same thing going on, also on the gixxer i have flat side 40 mn carbs so at idle you can hear what is happening in the heads( sound like a dragster.
I love both...

My baby monster gixxer

Almost finish..

With a D&D slip-on before the potentiometer and TPS mods my 12 had a really nasty sounding idle lope of 50-100 RPM. With both of the above modifications and car air filters, not the Dodge truck K&N's, my 12 ran really well and I could tune out the idle lope with the potentiometer at 490 ohm's. The problem was a slow off idle throttle response. Very sluggish, hiccup, hesitation, you put your favorite word here, untill 3500-4000RPM then it seemed to catch its breath and hang on tight. Second gear power wheelies any time I dialed in full throttle and the RPM's hit 7500 or so. Now with the Yosh EMS and 2 degree timing map no hesitation to blips of the throttle, still has a 50 RPM lope below 1100 RPM. I like!

A little fuel

A little fuel at idle can help smooth out the situation a little. Careful though too much fuel will make the bitch toooo rich during warmup.

Hi Tear,

like WE discuss about it with y2k, the bike seems to be already a little rich even at idle & at stock setting values...i've seen the little black cloud under hard acceleration from idle to 4-5 k while playing with the tps..try other values from 1.084 to 1.15 Vdc to smooth the lope.
even at 1.09 vdc it seems to be too rich...
i've all mods, akro, no pc3, kleen removed, advance
+ 3 mm..
i guess it'll worth to let it at stock values...
your opinion ???
Thx..

If you want your idle surging to almost disappear after tweaking your PC3R, turn your idle adjustment screw in until you're turning 1400-1500 rpm. I have mine set that way and I have no surging.

On my 12 actual idle is VERY different than hard accel in the low rpms. Idle (0% throttle 800-1300 rpms) is very very lean on my bike. Adding about 12%-15% more fuel in the upper left corner of the map saved me. It also brought my idle up to about 1300 where it likes to be. Hard accel is a different story completely. Also. You should note that if you richen up your idle tooooooo much then cold start will to be toooo rich and it will not like to run when cold idling, keep that in mind when playing with idle.

L_jm: I would say try to get your hands on a PCIII (not the r version if you don't want to play with the advance) and you will not be disappointed as long as you don't pinch your wires in your tank.
