magnesium repair?

so i'm having a hella hard time finding a good used clutch cover, and since i'm thinking about painting/powdercoating it anyway, i'm wondering if mine can't be repaired. it's not leaking or anything, but it is scratched up pretty good (some deep gouges). is there a way to repair this? soemthing equivalent to sanding the gouges down or using bondo (but obviously something more durable)?

the cheap and dirty answer is to fill the gouges with JB weld and repaint. If you want to fix it 100%, have the gouges welded up using the TIG process...

I had scratches on my alt cover and we just used body filler. But I was painting it, not powder coating. Turned out nice. I figured I didn't need the powder coating on the covers. They don't see much abuse unless you drop the bike and even powder coating won't protect against something like that.

I've used body filler a couple of times on the engine covers and then re-painted like said above..

Chrome has NO business on a Sportbike. How much chrome do you see on ANY roadrace motorcycle. Lot's of guys have shit chromed and Drag Racers seem to like it more than other racers. Does that chrome make the bike any faster? If not it's not needed. To each their own I guess. I would much rather have 50 sets of tires for the same money.

Dude from the looks of those 1" chicken strips on your tires there's very little you can say! Spending a ton of cash on chrome won't get you Home................................First

or it could be that the tires had less than 30 miles on them when the pics were taken
or that there is a leaky gasket on the generator cover spraying oil onto the rear tire
trust me, i gets down and dirty on the turns... thats why i have stock wheelbase and height.

dont know about jb weld

do know about magnesium
needs to be protecteed from ordinary air

that it is not a stressed or weight bearing component
the jb weld will probably work

i would start with sand paper
40 grit...... 60 grit..... right on down
until it is smooth
then have it powder coated......... your colore

then
forget about it

good luck
