Tagged a valve...errr 4!! pics inside (dial-up don't bother)

I was at the track with DWB doing a little testing and tuning. Bike was running strong! Then all hell broke loose. Bike went boom at the big end of the track. I pulled the clucth in quickly and the bike instantly died. I knew that wasn't a good sign.

Not really sure why it tagged a valve. When I built the motor all my valve to piston clearances were about .085" intake and .070" exhaust.

Bike had Muzzy springs so I don't think I floated a valve. I think that the rod is also bent because the melted piston is a little lower in the hole than the number 2 piston. Maybe it just looks that way because the top of the piston is all mangled. I will have to split the cases to find out for sure.

Here are some pics of my blown up 1375 motor.

The first 2 pics are all of the pieces that were inside my header. It is what is left of one of the valve seats.

Next pic is inside the throttle body.

Next we move on to the cylinder head. First one is the intake side of the head. If you look you can see mangled valves.

Next is the combustion chamber. You can see 3 of the valves. The spark plug is still in the head. Not that you can really tell. I couldn't get it out of there.

Moving right along. Next we take a look at the piston. Notice the GIANT hole in the top of it. Where is the head of the 4th valve you ask??? Look no further. Here it is stuck in the top of this piston.

Osti,
now THAT is gonna make for some cool garage jewelry!!!!

Seem like both EXHAUST (thanx VH ) seats popped out, eh?? Anyway you can find out if those two seats were previously replaced/repaired?? I've seen a couple a really fukked up heads, but never seen the seats pop out.

If the seats were loose in the head, perhaps they left some chatter marks??

Maybe time to sell me those 2 used cams and start a super fund for your impending cleanup.

BTW: I have a very clean OEM cyl block if you want it (free to you!)

Wideout, No worries. It will be ready for Texas.

Karl, Cool garage jewelry indeed. I will probably take you up on that block. The more I look at mine the worse it looks. You don't owe me anything for those cams. If anything I probably still owe you for all the times I've crashed at your house and drank your beer and ate your food.

Jaws, Stock intake valves and stainless exhaust valves.

YCIS, Got any JB Weld?? I should be asle to fix her right up with that. lol!

TRNorBRN, I will let you know if I need that rod. Thanks!!

Kram, I had to drink lots of beer to drown my sorrows.

Voz, I will get her going again. No worries on that bro.

I will take some more pics later this week when I split the cases to check for further damage. I just wish I knew what the hell caused this mess. I know it tagged a valve but I'm not really sure why.

Seeing the sears removed with using a Cutter was the surprise to me! That is truly a "Hard" Part that caused a lot of the damage.

Hopefully you can save your Transmission and assorted pieces (I mean whole parts!)

Serious Suck.
Unfortunately Cams are toast as well. I have lost two heads prior with exactly the same result. The first one failed (I think) because the stock exhaust valve broke / melted off the stem. Replaced cams and head with SS Valves. The second one failed after a retainer failed or spit out. Mabey you can weld three of them together to make one good one? I now run 70 pounds of spring pressure.

Mr. Hill,

I hope to be able to save the crank, tranny and cases at this point. I will know more when I split the cases.

NOS1290,

Nope. Cams look fine. I must have lucked out there.

I've seen one with similar damage and the general concensus on that one was the nitrous bleed-off failed.

It knocked the retainers right out like that too, holed the 3&4 piston and shot the #3 rod right through the lower.

He never found it the way I remember.

Sorry for bad shit happening bro. I know you'll get it back up and clean soon.
