Honda?
how many of you think that if Honda wanted to ,,,they could produce a bike on par with the 12s and 13s and 14s,, ive grown up on hondas,,fist a 750,,then a 1050 CBX (7 of them),, then on to (2) GSXR 11s,,and now my 12,,, but just curious why Honda never made an attempt at the big bike showdown,, any input,, or spy photos..??

i remember when the new celicas came out with the variable valve timing,, you could actually feel the slight boost high on the revs,, that would be something on a superbike!

Absolutely. They did make an attempt and marginally passed the zx11 with the cbr1100xx. Then the busa crushed the Honda. Kawi fired back with the 12r which beat the busa by about the same margin that the XX had beat the ZX11.
Honda is a more "responsable" bike maker and being by far the biggest of the 4 jap bike makers and has the deepest pockets and has been involved with the highest forms of auto racing. But they seem to prefer to follow rather than push the envelope like suzuki.
Suzuki has been the driving force behind the 1000 market and the big bores sence the intro of the 99 busa and the 01 1000.
I'd put more money on suzuki coming out with the next top dog then Honda.

Your kill'n me Y2K, I never realy thought the XX ever whipped the ZX11 nor
did I think the ZX12 ever whipped the Busa. I do think todays top dog is the
ZX14 though for over 1000cc bikes.
Like it was stated above I think Hondas pockets are so large that they do not
feel the need to make a large rocket ship just yet.

Honda could do it but, I don't think honda likes real power in any of their engines.
Very smooth and reliable, but gutless without mods.

I had a 929 it was a fun little ripper, use to be wifes bike before kids.
It would be cool if they just worked that engine family out to 1300cc
and kept things the same every where else. (weight)

TRN, well i wouldnt say "whipped". But the american rags claimed the xx had a higher top speed. They also said it was 136 hp. Mine was 124 stock broken in. With a pipe cam timing ,air filter, timing etc. etc. I ended up with 142hp. I never did any top speed runs with my xx so I guess its debateable.
My 12r was 171 hp without a single aftermarket part on it or the valve cover ever off. So I think that would have spanked any busa with stock exhaust.
Yea Honda would have to think that making a 200hp bike would expand sales and make them money now and in the future. If they think that it has a possability of bringing government reg. and political trouble to the motorcycle market and damage potential sales in the future, well then thay wont do it.
The others are all about making money now, and making what they think will sell well reguardless of its potential future political impact about how nuts these bikes are getting and that a 16 year old can drop 10g and ride off.
I dunno, thats how i read Honda. Conservative, but not unable.

Honda never impressed me as a leader in bikes, more of a follower in the recent years. The CBR is a perfect example...since it's inception, it has been a dog amongst the rest of the pack never able to keep up to the rest of them...they could easily be there, but I guess their success is limited to the Wing for now. even their cruiser line, nothing special there...maybe they just don't give a fuck...

Y2K you had a gem of a 12 out of the box. My PC and Slip on with K&N's only made that much. My brother had a Busa and his Made 168 with around the same mods, but it sure
felt stronger on the street. I should have a 1375 in a month or two, it should keep up with
my brothers current 1397.

I beleive that maybe one day if they wanted to they can, Honda is very conservative, and really do care about the safety issue, But dont be surprised if they do come out with something here in the next couple of years. They are the worlds largest engine manufacture.

Honda is the most advanced motorcycle maker out there. Hello! RC211V? They just don't unleash it on the streets. Pound for pound Honda is about 10 years ahead of everyone. Just do your own research and compare part for part, and pay attention on the engineering aspect of the entire motorcycle. They even make jets!!! don't forget the lawn mower! lol

A buddy is borrowing my copy of Mach 2/Mach 3. I'm pretty sure the XX out MPHed the top Kawasaki on Mach 2, the zx-11 since the 12 was not out yet. This was done on what appears to be an old airstrip with radar.
If my memory serves correct, the R1 hit 167, the xx hit 172 or 177??, the Busa hit 187?
The zx11 and xx were close from what I remember on the video....they just got eclipsed by the Busa bad. The R1 killed the twisties, the busa killed the straights so the zx and xx weren't emphasized as much.
Of course Honda COULD do it. Any of the big four could. All four HAVE! Yamaha even had the FJR.
As far as CBRs go in general, I'm on my 2nd one. They take a beating, wheelie predictably, and give predictable (boring) acceleration. It is what it is.

Honda currently trails Suzuki in all aspects of performance in the literbike category. Even their 2007 model, which was new in 2006, is inferior to the previous-generation 2005 Suzuki.
While I think Honda makes well-engineered bikes that are pleasing to the eye, I would never consider racing one again. They are just too complex, too hard to service and too hard to make fast. In 1000cc production racing classes, it's very difficult to go wrong with a Suzuki.
Even in the 600 class, while the CBR is much improved over last year's model, it hasn't yielded much change in terms of results in AMA Supersport racing. After the last round at VIR, which Josh did win, the championship is still Kawasaki's to lose. The top-10 manufacturer's standings are K-K-H-K-S-S-S-H-Y-Y. That's a lot of green and yellow, and not much red.

Their sales in other areas is too great, why mess with it........
I had a S2000 with the V tec, one of the early models with the 9000 redline, it was cool when it kicked in a t 6000 rpm at 100 mph.
