Best dragstrip tire

I was airing down the Dunlop 207 last night in prep for the Friday night fun at the Drapstrip and had some thoughts about tires. Of course this tire like many you guys run are for turing and curving and riding. But what is the best tire for the drap strip? And why do you think so? I mean there has to be a better tire out there that is DOT approved that puts down a wider path....

From my experience, unless you have an extended swingarm, it won't matter. 207's will hook fine, even at 35lbs. Lower as neccessary, but keep as much air in it as you can. Bridgestone BT010's are cheaper, and will still hook up fine. If your extended you would need a Micky Thompson tire, which one depends upon how much extension you have. They cost a lot and wear out quicker, but put down a bigger footprint. (a cold day at a bad track might be a different story, then you'd need all the tire you could get)

Going to HRP? If so, your stocker should be fine unless your extended several inches. I always hear of 12 riders spinning tires but some tracks aren't prepped as well as others and temps make a big difference also. Down here in the South we're blessed with pretty good hooking tracks it seems. I've yet to spin my 010 going 1.53 at 4" over. I'm sure I can, just haven't gotten there yet.

Krexken - How much air are you running with that bt-010 at the strip? I also have a 4 inch extension, will never use that 010 again WAAAY too slippery with the arm especially on the street the 207 was much better. Have Rennsports on now, best I have tried so far.

If you are spinning any, SHINKO!! Need I say more. My 010 works good around 24 or so and then awesome on the street at 35. BT56ss works pretty good for a drag tire, too. I will use the 010 from now on until I get the arm, then it will be a Shinko.

before adding 6" to the arm, I used a 207 at 40# at the track. Almost never had traction problems, and when I did, going down on the pressure didn't seem to help traction but sure knocked a couple of mph of the big end. I am 230 with gear so maybe that's a factor.

with the 1361 and arm its a different story, he-he-he... both the 207 and Michelin HPX were easily (and often!) induced to do l-o-n-g rolling smokies, by simply snapping the throttle at 10-15 mph in 1st to get it spinning, then when it was at 10-11000 rpm just punch the button for 2nd gear. WOO-HOO!!!!

if you try this, do be careful and lean forward over the tank when snapping the throttle in 1st, if it hooked you'd be on yer ass faster than you could say "OH FUCK!!!"

I LOVE this bike!!!!

I run around 22 pounds in it. Most guys I see spinning at my track suffer from excessive tire loading upon initialy hit. Not all, but most. You running at Ennis? My car never hooked as good there as it did at Hallsville, my home track. Don't think I'd want to take a corner fast with a Shinko although they may be fine. I change by bike length and heigth like I change my underwear. Got to have dual purpose!
