Tach problem, any ideas?

Here's the scoop. I changed out the guage faces for white ones and now my tach reads low. It's showing about half what it should. 70 mph reads about 3K. Idle 400 when I know it's around 1K. Ran it up to rev limiter in 1st and that appears correct, just above redline. Span is good but zero is off. Both needles zero out right together when you turn the ignition on so I dont think the needle is dragging. Maybe I pushed it on too far? I was careful not to create any static discharge when I had 'em apart. Battery is new also. Anybody else ever have this happen. FIgured I ask before I go diggin in.

Not a swap, just disassembled the original cluster and changed out the faceplates. It's a 2000 if that matters. I am the original owner.

After some searching I found the link. Looks like I may need to pull the needle and reposition it. Didn't think it would be necessary since the guages appear to reset upon powering up. They do return to zero when the motor is off.

Any luck yet? I think first I would double check all the connections that were involved. Then I would try advancing the tach needle 400-500rpms and see if it still zeroes out.

I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Fiddled with it a bit and and decided to do just that. Dissassembled and pulled the needle, rezeroed(cycley power) with no needle then buttoned it back up. Was 11PM and raining so I didn't get to ride it but appears OK now. We'll see when I get to ride the thing. Thanks all.
