First Track Day!
Just got home from my first track day at Cresson Motorsport Ranch just outside of Fort Worth. Great track. Fairly tight with pretty smooth pavement. I couldn't believe how slick it was though. I've never really had a bike move around on me the way it did today. Luckily, it was mostly the back tire doing most of the squirming around. My 12 did me real proud. Handled what few bumps there were with ease. Even got one peg down for the first time! Hey, I'm mostly a drag racer so I'm not used to such stuff. I'll definitely be going back. Main place I was getting beat up on was the corner exits. I wasn't real sure how hard I could push it and didn't really want to find out the hard way. Pulling the front end at 100 plus was fun too. I was king of the straightaways anyway. I highly recommend doing one. Great learning experience and fun.

Did you ride with the extensions bolted on? How much was it for the day? What type of equipment was needed? Maybe I can take my 6 down there.....

Doing my first one on the 12R next week at PIR, Portland. What kind of tires did you use?

I did one at PIR last summer.... If I were you I'd get some track tires.. the 207 streets are good fer one track day and that's it... PS.. watch out fer that front straight... the braking markers for theindy cars mess with yer head! ... I got it up to 172mph on the front straight but almost shit myslef doing it..
have fun!

Actually have a set of 208 GP's installed. The only thing that I have noticed about the 208's is that under heavy braking the front end snakes around a bit. Was that 172 real speed or indicated, I saw in excess of 175 on my R1 there last year also but I was breaking real early however.

172 indicated.. and the 207 streets did skate around in the same way... I imagine that the R1 isnt quite the handful to slow down in the front straight... When I took my duc to SIR I didnt have the bejesus scared out of me quite like the 12 did... those extra braking markers and the extra 130lbs er so the 12 has make it (IMHO) a bit of a pig to stop... that's all
also had a funny experience out of 5A... was coming nicely out of the turn and feeding throttle as I heard buddy on his GSXR up behind me and passing me... I was lazily conituing along and wondered how he could be passing me (thought I was cranked open).. turns out I was at like 1/8 throttle! .. Man does the 12 have tons of power! Too funny... GSXR's barely making it by you and yer lumpin along with yer throttle open a crack.. hehehe
lots a fun... oh .. and my PC3's map was a little wonky so consitently off throttle into turn 7 I'd get a nice BIG backfire that would launch me an extra foot forward or so... just past where I wanted to turn... kinda funny..

I took the extensions off, Charlie. I have a 207 front and an 010 rear. I probably didn't get going much over 120 on the longest straight. Kinda glad the straights weren't any longer. Rarely did I exceed 9 grand anywhere on the track. Because of a fantastic throttle glitch when getting back on the gas around 4500-7000, I used taller gears and just torqued it out most of the day. Tried fattening up the map at low throttle postions but it was useless. Bike needs nothing to be legal. Just some duct tape on the lenses. Leather gear and boots are all ya need. Cost was $125. The texture of the track was very smooth and not very abrasive. Nothing like the roads around here and north Georgia.

Congratulations
I got my CMRA yellow shirt there, almost two years ago. It wasn't that much fun, but since I didn't have any sleep for the previous 36 hours... that might explain it. Still the slightly off camber to some of those curves were pretty scary for a wuss like me.
Two days (and a lot of sleep) later, I rode on Oak Hill in Henderson. A lot more fun, but the surface sucked compaired to Cresson. I hear that they have repaved Oak Hill.

This is the closest track to me and my friends say it's an excelent track.I hope to be able to go soon.

I heard the same thing about repaving Oak Hill. I also heard you have to get your license from them to get on the track though. Shame, it's less than thirty minutes from the house. If you're a licensed CMRA member, it's only like $25 for a track day.

CMRA and Oak Hill
That kinda sucks that you have to be licensed to get on to Oak Hill. It's not like it THAT GREAT of a track. When we were there, it was kinda weird.
We were the first ones there. It looked like an abandoned go-kart track with weeds growing from the cracks in the track. We went to the "scoring tower" (looked like a lean-to on stilts) and signed the waiver that was just sitting on a counter.
About 2 1/2 hours later, some old guy pulled up in a old beat up truck. Asked us if we had signed the waiver and took our $30 (and the $30 each from the only other group of riders there). He told us that in case of an emergency, to use the phone in the tower to call 911. If we used a cell phone, we'd get the emergency services of a neighboring county. How reassuring!
After that, he drove off and we never saw him again. I guess since they have done some repaving, they've move "uptown". What a shame. It's a real fun track. I can proudly say that I beat Tommy Hayden's track record by almost TEN SECONDS! The fact that he was riding a YSR50 doesn't matter. I still beat him!
