cam chain question

My buddy has an 00 zx12r with 40,000K. The bike still runs strong it is totally stock. The only mod is a muzzy clutch. He says his response is "sloppy"

Question: Can the cam chain tensioner go bad
Question: Can the cam chain itself get bad
Question: Can there be a performance improvement with an aftermarket cam chain tensioner

Thanks

Clutch response (if that's what you meant) has nothing to do with the cam chain. The slop in the chain, nor the twist of the camshaft stick is not enough to signal sluggishness. You say the bike... "still runs strong..."

Tensioners are pretty bulletproof street wise. Unless you want to keep the cam degrees as close as you set them up, then the way to go is a more solid locking cam tensioner system.
The hy-vo chain is a delicate animal. Bad news if you skip a tooth, or flip the chain the other way. Read up on hy-vo type chains.

This "sloppy" feeling?... is that right after installing the clutch mod?
