I am very sorry for your loss, I have two older brothers and I don't know what I would do if I lost either one of them. I can only imagine the pain in your heart right now. May God be with your brother, you and the rest of your family and friends.

God Bless ya brother....I have lost both my Mom and Dad. I still recall wonderful times of years ago, sometimes I cry and sometimes I smile. Those memories will NEVER fade, as I'm sure your brothers never will either. I feel your sorrow.
You are blessed with the gift of writing.....keep it up!

Don't quite know what to say.....
These things are the toughest to understand and everyone tried to relate to them in the best way they can. I lost my oldest brother in 1986, he was 33 at the time. Although the circumstances were different the feelings you expressed seem to be the same. No matter what has happened good or bad it's still your brother and nothing changes that. It's 16 years later and I still think about my brother every day, I'm sure it won't be any different for you.
For someone who seems to have been on a lot of rough roads in your day you sure have a level outlook on life and that is very impressive. Just my little take on the RedElk experience. You know how to find me if you need something (and that is a little scary) so don't hesitate if you feel the need.

I'm sorry for your loss Redelk. We frequently get ETOH abusers on our med surg floor and generally they behave and tell the doctor's what they want to hear and get discharged to go right back to their habit. One though, after waking up from a coma with his throat very sore from being intubated was truly scared. Maybe scared enough to seek help. I told him that he is truly the master of his own destiny. He was afraid to be discharged home! I hope he followed through with entering rehab.
Remember both the good and the bad memories, your brother's strength's and weakness, they define your relationship.

Sherm, my heart breaks for you, your family, and for Gene. I, too, recently lost someone very special in much the same way. Daily, I wonder if and why...even though I know better. My eyes are filled with tears and a BIG SMILE for you. It's as if I were with you the other day at Dogpatch.

Especially jlk. That means a whole lot to me. FYI, jlk was one of the few real parts in a very unreal part of my life. A long time friend who has been a very major part of my life. jlk doesn't even ride.
His service is at 2 pm today. I'm going to go to work for a while, even though we are closed.

I joined (re-joined) this board just for this. I have experienced this disease firsthand, so I understand. That certainly doesn't make things any easier. I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. I'm sure he's smiling down at you, in the blink of an eye as far as time is concerned you will be there with him. Godspeed Gene

Sherman, I know its hard because you miss your brother and feel sorry for him. But try to keep your head up and think about the good times you had with him. He will alwasy be with you you just won't see him. Think of it like this, he is in no pain now, and I'm sure he doesn't want you and your family in any either. I'm sorry for you loss, God Bless you and your family.

It's done.
I'm back at work now. I didn't join "the family" after the service. Unfortunately, though I'm in recovery, I still have an addict's mentality. Those like me tend to go where we feel most comfortable in times like these. Fortunately, my family does understand this.
Though I assumed I was going to be asked to say something, I really didn't know for sure, until I arrived at the funeral home. It was a very short service and only my father and I spoke (yes, he did ask me to speak).
I had posted a link to this thread on LA Busas and my good friend (I consider all of you my good friends), Phantom, had posted a reply that really touched me. I told him that he put my feelings, which took me three pages, into three sentences. I quoted part of what he said at the service.
I spoke of how one's life-stream seems unalterable and how His time was spent; to a purpose beyond our knowing. Now, that time, along with what troubles he may had, has ended.. I also said how a stream will also end, but it's how it ends that it is so important. For a steam will end into a much larger body of water.
That is what my brother's stream has done. We (his family and friends) now all have the opportunity to enjoy this ocean he has left for us. An ocean of all the wonderful memories that we can immerse ourselves in. How lucky can one be to have such?
Again, thank you all very much for allowing me to share this with you. I hope that it wasn't a bother.
Right now, I think it's time for me to take a swim. Surf's up!

hey.. look on the bright side... you can use all of those hams as wheel blocks to hold yer bike in place when you transport it :P

Yes....
my dealer DID actually send flowers... white begonias. Also, yes, they have never met my brother. He never rode bikes.

Redelk...From my own experiences I know the pain of losing a family member. You will never forget this pain but please know that with time the it will become easier to bear. Be patient and allow yourself the time to heal. Your fond memories of your brother are his legacy to you to enjoy for the rest of your life.

Your candor is refreshing; it reminded me of Jimmy Carter's love for his brother Billy during his presidential term. He did not try to conceal his brother's alcohol illness in spite of unfavorable public opinion. I am certain you will prosper with the inner strength you are presently displaying from the fond memories you hold in your heart of your brother. God's speed to you, your family, and loved ones.
