Shimming the clutch stack...
Have any of you guys tried adding an extra 1.6 mm steel to the stack to increase the stack height?
Does anyone make a thicker steel than a 2.0mm?

I do it all the time.
Sometimes you need to add a 2nd 1.6 steel in the pack to get the height correct after wear. I do this with the Muzzys pack a lot or just when I typically use all 2.0 steels, I'll add a 1.6 after some time to get it stacked up again.
Although the title of this topic should be stacking steels not shimming. Shimming normally refers to adding washers to the spring pack to tighten up the pressure on the stack.

No warpage issues with two steels together?
I'm thinking this is why the clutch is slipping. I have the muzzy kit and all the frictions and steels are still sweet but i just needed some stack height even thou the cover wasnt bottoming out.
I have the schnitz springs anyway, but i'll bet its better now with a 1.6 in there.
thanks

nah..the steels dont friction against each other...they turn in the same direction...its like making one big 3.6mm steel.

I also use 2 - 1.6 to make a 3.2. I even have a few 1.4 for this purpose. If not high enough you can ruin a few Pullers!

No the plates dont warp, because like Brian and Vincent said, they dont spin against each other, they are stacked locked together and create a virtual single plate. I think everyone with drag experience on a ZX12 does this.

Right, I know they dont spin against each other, but was concerned if two steels disapate the heat the same as the other 2.0s or can they buckle away from each other when hot type thing and cause a change in clutch feal when hot and cold.
Thanks guys.

When you consider the options, even IF it did warp you don't have much choice.
I have used the 1.4s and 1.6s to increase stack, never noticed any increased wear or warpage.

Remember they are touching and having heat transfer berween them and the Oil acts as part of the conductoras opposed to an insulator
