Who has BMC Filters?

And has used them in their bike? Do they fit like the K&N's, TFT (Too Fuckin Tight),? How much did they cost?

Harry, I have them, they fit great!!! one finger to push them in! see my "new mods" tread. I paid $115.00 otd so they are not cheap but they do seem to work well. The only other mod I did to my bike was to install a yosh bolt on. after I rode it for a few miles I noticed my idle was up 200 rpm. I turned it down to 1000, it idle's perfect and the bike seems to rev faster and easier now. I don't know how much was filters and how much was the can but I like it.

BMC filters

Big12, If the filters fit in that easy, I would be concerned with dirt getting by around the sealing surface. You may want to moniter that. And please let us know what you find. I plan on getting those filters but would like feedback on the filtering.

FUCK K&N's

I grease the sides and you can put a packing strap down the sides to make it easier to remove. K&n's fit TOO FUCKIN TIGHT! I would have bought BMC to start with had they been available at the time.

I'm not too worried about dirt getting in, I have approx. 1900 miles and when I took out the oem filters the air box was clean. The BMC filters went in and out as easy as the stock ones, little resistance but you can push them in with one finger. I will check them at 3000mi and let everybody know if there is any dirt in the air box. I don't believe the dirt that some others were getting was from around the filters in the first place, I would look at the seal around the access covers and the vent tubes first and make sure all surfaces are clean and free of debre from manufacturing. That is the more likely area that dirt is getting in, like I said, my filters had dirt in them but my air box was very clean.

Come to think of it..... when I took out one of the oem filters I noticed that some of that foam trim around the edge (to help them seal) was a little deformed like it wasn't all in the filter slot at the bottom of the air box. could it be that some people were getting dirt in their air boxes because the oem filters weren't installed properly when assembled??? just thinking out loud here.

K&N filters

yep the trick is grease the sides of filter also use long artist brush to put grease in slot at the bottom slot to aid instalation remove the access covers and you can reach in and push at the bottom of filter and they slide right in

Filters?

Do I use K&Ns? No. BMC? Nope. OEM? Not really. Well, what the hell do I use? Those Moterhead filters, remember? Since there were no aftermarket filter out at the time, I had Dennis "make" mine.

He took the OEM filters, gutted them to the frame and glued two layers of UNI prefilter foam in each one. After about 24K miles and serveral cleanings and oilings, they still work great and of course, fit like OEM. I've always kept a close eye out for any possible debris in the airbox and have NEVER seen a single bit. Not a thing.

Dynoed on a totally stock bike, the filters produced peak gains of close to 5 HP and 3.5 ft/lbs. Cost? A freebie. He just wanted to experiment. Real world cost? I don't know. How much would some UNI prefilter foam and some silicone glue cost?
