REAL reason why you have a 12 and not
a busa,,is it the looks,, do you really think it is a better bike,,and if so why,,reason i ask is,,my little brother just bought and took possesion of a white 06 SE busa,,day before yesterday,, i was the one that talked him into the color he got,, his mind was set on the suzuki though,, just wondering what made the determining factor that made you kaw owner be! ??

If the original tanned penis looking Busa wasn't so fugly, I would have gotten one. I wanteed the baddest there was, and that was it. When the 12 came to town a year later, I knew it was for me. Looks awesome, and when I sat on it, I just jived with it immediately. The Busa felt odd to me, heels up, reaching forward. But, I still would have bought one for it's performance if it fit me better.
My best riding friend just bought an '02 SE black Bus, a big black penis! Actually, it's very good looking in all black.

I just like the '12 better. More asthetically pleasing to me and either is fast enough. Its not all about "what is the fastest" or "who can 1/4 mile the quickest" its about me really liking my purchase - and I really love the '12. The Busa just didn't appeal to me as much, but I'm not saying that other guys don't or shouldn't love the Busa - just not my thing. Every time I ride the '12 I am completely satisfied.... plus the 175 or so HP that it puts to the rear wheel is just fine by me.

BTW - my biggest delema now is to get a zx-10 or a goldwing  . Should I go for the touring (I am doing more and more long trips) or should I go for a racing machine .

I cut myself shaving the other day and GREEN blood poured out  I've been loyal to Kawasaki for so long now I figure why stop now? Although I have thought about a Goldwing in recent times.

i hear that,, actually i had honda when i was younger,,78 cb750 f,, then went to the CBX,,had 7 of them,, 2 gixxer 11s,,then i made the change to kaw watercraft,,750,900,1100
now its the 12r,,no yamahas,, oh well ,,dont feel like im missing out on much..

I have owned Kawasaki's since the late 60's! I always liked the early Models because they all had "Kawasaki Raw" feel and power! as the model went through the years, they would refine the "Raw" out of it and to me no longer felt like a Kawasaki. The 00 Model ZX12 totally felt like a Kawasaki. The 02 was "Refined" to the point that it no longer felt "Raw" and does not appeal to me.
I read the Magazine articles and they all seem to want "Honda" Refined motorcycles. The ZX14 is the closest thing I have ever rode made to feel like that in a first year Kawasaki I have ever rode. This is possibly a good thing for Kawasaki because they want to Broaden their base, but everytime you broaden the base you lose some of your Core Base.
The ZX14 is a very fine Morotcycle that does everything well. No Bucking and lurching as low Revs. No Gear noises from the clutch or cams (I do not miss the straight cut gear sound of the CLutch Primary gears, but I do miss the "Whirl" sound Most Kawasaki 4 strokes made. It6 did not have the Exhaust note I am used to hearing either. I cannot totally describe it, but the 2000 ZRX 1100 I bought in January has caused me to do more riding in the last few months than I have done all last year. Right now, I would like to take that bike for a ride. I even like it more than my 12!

The thing between Kawasaki & Suzuki "Used to be like Ford and Chevy. The KZ1000 was the 265, 283, 327 then the 350 and 400 Small Block engine. The Ford was the 260. 289, 305 then 351 windsor engine. There were and still are a Zillion Race Parts for a KZ1000.
The tide changed with the Busa, now the Busa is the Chevy and the Kawasaki is the Ford with the ZX12. Anyone can make a Busa go fast, but it takes skill and more money to make the 12 go as fast or faster!
Hopefully the ZX14 will move Kawasaki back to the Chevy way of doing things. I always hated Fords (Found On Road Dead! Found on Russian Dump!)

I also wanted the baddest bike around, even took a test ride, but I couldn't get past the looks, and knew I wouldn't be happy with a busa. So I waited a year, and bought a 2k A1 12, and never looked back

also have both....and while the 12 was faster (when it was a streetbike)....i have to admit I enjoy RIDING the busa more than the 12.
its more comfortable...and for just driving around...the throttle response/feel is far superior to the 12.
but if I wanted to race...id always pick the 12

...'75 Kawasaki Z-1 was my first bike....it just fit...I bought my '00 ZX-12R without so much as atest-ride....I read about it, liked the way it looked, sat on one, then I bought it RIGHT THEN AND THERE....as with the Z-1 back when I was younger and more flexible, the ZX-12R fit me now that I am older and not as flxible....with my Corbin 'tractor seat', 600-mile a day sorties were no problem when I used to have the time to ride those sorties...no butt burn at all, no back pains at all, no leg/knee cramps at all, just a little wrist 'discomfort'...all it needs now are HeliBars....seems the ZX-12R was a sportbike tailored for the physicalities of 6-1/250lbs/33"inseam sportbikers like me ...I'm confident that the ZX-14 will also fit ME and how and why I like to ride....

...if I had the extra money, I'd buy a Busa as well and 'just because'....I've sat on one but have never ridden one....it felt 'tighter' at my knees....I imagine that its a fine sportbike as well....I like the 'face' of latest iteration....not so Lilo-n-Stich-lookin' ....all it would need for me to ride it as comfortably as the 12R are lowering brackets for the rider pegs, HeliBars, and a Corbin seat...Kawasaki and Suzuki make two of the baddest-ass big-bore hypersport-touring bikes in the world for the average income rider...BMW is there, too, but its too rich for my finances....

I chose the ZX12R because i wanted to ride a sport bike. Not just a rocket. I started on a zx9, a year later i got a busa. Didn't really want to leave the Kaws but at the time, the busa appealed to me more. from the 2000 busa i went to an '02 12r. Loved that machine. So much easier to corner and transition. That's when i knew i was in the right place. I've since moved on to an '04 12r. Fortune had it that i could make some improvements with penske rear shock and full yosh exhaust and a couple other things. I'm a larger individual myself and just can't seem to fit on the smaller bikes as well as the 12r. But, at least i have the body weight to compensate the difference. Which bike is faster?, who knows or cares. The faster rider makes the difference. The 12r kills the busa, I know for a fact, in the turns. I chose the 12 because it let's me ride like the little fellas i ride with. Even on the dragon. I am sad they quit making it and as of yet don't know if the 14 will be an equal alternative.

....in the end its all rider...I once had a Busa rider rail around me on Palomar ....and here I already I thought I was on the edge of my envelope just trying to keep a good pace on the 'tight side' (south grade) so as not to block the riders on 1000s, 600s, twins, and motarded singles.....but the kicker was that the Busa was being superbly ridden TWO UP!!!!....yeap, its all rider

Editor of Motorcyclist Magazine, Mitch Boehm had a long term test of a 02 12 and he raved about it, so I liked it's looks, what the fuck, no regrets!
Was a hardcore canyon strafer but I discovered I spent all my time with my eyes glued to the road, looking for bad shit, no opportunity to enjoy the scenery.

I always liked Kawasakis better...They fit me better and seemed to be more of a street bike/rider friendly...
I had a '85 ninja 600 and loved that bike, '87 gixxer 1100-loved and hated it, compared to Kawasakis the Gixxer felt as if it was unfinished and the well nuts sucked-there was always little things going wrong with it!!!...Also had a '95 zx11-loved that bike too...Bought a 2000 zx12 and it was awesome, better than the 11 but then it wasn't...Until the 2002 zx12, bought that and now the 12 is better than the 11...As for the Busa, I like it but not as much as the 12...The Busa also has little things going wrong with it as the 2002-3-4-5 zx12 is flawless!!!
Im sure the 14 will be even better than the 12!!!

The buying decision:
Pure ergonomics for me.
I like the Busa. Always have. But, its a bike for shorter people than me.
The Honeymoon:
With comparable riders the zx-12r will wax a Busa's ass in the corners every time. I learned that early on in our marriage.

I actually liked the Busa at first, until I noticed the 12. The Busa's styling is not bad, just different. However, with hindsight being 20/20, if you guys take a good look. There are not very many parts suppliers for the 12 as opposed to the Busa. Maybe it's just a Kawasaki/Suzuki thing, but check it out. I still love my bike though.

I wish my 12 had the straight cut primary gear whine of the Z-1's .If anyone has ever ridden an early Z you will clearly know what I am talking about...purely intoxicating!!!!Even the GPZ's had that whine...i'll never forget that music!

...oh yeah, brookdude....I can still here that whine...it was one of the reasons that caught my attention...it was one of the reasons I bought it as my first ever bike... ...the eventual Kerker exhaust that I installed after I unceremoniously tossed into the dumpster kinda' drowned it out though

I bought my 12 because they wouldn't cut me the deal on the Busa I wanted. Here's to you Loomis cycle! I used to sell bikes for the guy who ran a competing dealership ( go Lake Cycle in Merrillville!) and he got sick of me coming in year after year and spring after spring so he cut me a deal on a 12 that I could not pass up. Thank goodness.
