repairing a crack in the fairing
well i hit a cat at high speed....actually the cat hit me.....
its head hit the lower fairing....right at the place where there's a hole for checking the engine oil level....and there's a crack....
those of you wondering what happened to the cat...well it got up and left .....and i was screaming at that stupid animal causin a crack in my babe's fairin....
now i don't have any special shops here tackling this kind of problem....
what i need to know is that what is the name and the composition of an adhesive which can bond the fairing to its original strength and not cause any damage to the plastic.....
another thing is that i would need a filler to shape it up cause a small part of the fairin is broken....
help me out guys.....

You can fiberglass it from the rear for strength, but for filling you will have to get a plastic welder.
OR my body guy fixed a faring on my Concours by using a product called 4040. Its an adheasive and it filled. He was just an autobody guy, but worked great and bonded some broken tabs with steel screen reinforcing.

AAHHHHH! 4040 and my personal fav. 4050 duramix ROCKS on rigid plastics! I could walk you through it but it is rather critical to get it right once and fast. Trust me you have to screw up a few before it starts looking pretty. I could just fix it back for you good as new if interhested (brettsbikeworks@bellsouth.net). You can get the 4040/ 4050 at most auto body jobbers (go to body shop and ask where they buy there paint from) for about 25-35 bucks a cartridge. 50 bucks for the applicater gun and 12 bucks for bag of mixing tips. Then finish and paint. If you are looking for a "fuck it, aint mine" fix just clean with virgin thinner and apply super glue gel, place both sides together and before dries wipe clean excess with more thinner and polish after dries. hope this helps, Brett

Crash - Navpreet lives kinda far away to be doing it for him. I'm sure he appreciates the tips though.
A body man fixed mine using some sort of 3M Plastic/Rubber repair. Looks good as new from the outside and has been fine for well over a year. He repainted the entire fairing though.
Many people say they've had good luck with 2 part epoxy.

well thank you so much for the offer to do it for me...but alas i live in india....
i doubt i'll get 4040 here....tell me its chemical name or something...them maybe i find it.....other then that i'm planning to join it with a epoxy based resin....its like mixing a glue and a hardner (50-50)
...then when that dries up......i'll take a fibreglass tape....wet it with another epoxy based glue+hardner(40-60) and that should strengthen it up nicely.....
and regarding that broken piece....its very small to be noticed and there isn't and plastic welder near by
another thing is that i won't be repainting it....i can't get high quality paint here in small quantity...i'll have to buy a whole can...which'll be rather expensive.....
the paint over the crack has not peeled off....
what do you guys say......
i'll only start once i read your replies.....so do give this a thought.....

I had the same problem and i had a body shop plastic weld the fairing then repainted it and it looks great, you cant even tell, you might want to let a body shop look at it. It cost me 200 dollars.
