OK guys and Gals.. its that time of year again... what is the BEST TIRE for this year
Yep - my 2000 12 needs new shoes. What are the absolute best to get? I hear Dunlop has a new 208 out? Is it any good? What other ones are out there? I need to order some on MOnday, and I'm really partial to a 190 in the rear...

its not a 208 from what i understand,, i was at the Javitz center bike show in Manhattan about a month ago talking to the Dunlop guy,, of course he had nothing but good to say about his tires,, but i think after many posts and feedback,, Pilot Power will go on this time around,, my brother just put a front on his ( Pirelli) on back,, he loves it!

Do the Pilot Powers grip well? I'm looking to corner well - althoguh I don't anticipate heating up my tires before each ride, I do ride with some nutcases in the corners....

dunlop qualifier and michelin pilot powers scored well above th rest in a recent shoot-out. They were about even, but the wear on the dunlop was substantially more than that of the PPower.

There is a new Pilot Power called the Pilot Power 2CT. It is supposed to be better than last year's if that is possible. Put a 190 on the rear, you can't see the difference but you will feel the difference big time. Huge grip and awesome wear. Best tire I have ever tried.

hmm... I found a few places online in the UK that carry the tires for about 320 bucks US
190/50 120/70 combo.. but the shipping will kill me! are they in the states yet?

Metzler Racetec in K-1 or K-2. Buy the rear fill out form and get the front for FREE! Great track tire and will work fine on the street...may wear fast though. Hit the link and download the form. Dont worry you big wussies...I have done it twice now....got my tire both times. WR

deathpulse - I did say these are Great track tires.....because your right they are track day tires. Honestly I dont know. I have only done a couple hundred miles( 400-600mi) on them before I cream them at 2day track events...then their gone. It just really depends on what kind of riding you do. I have Pilot Powers on my other bike and I feel they are a excellent street tire that can handle a track day.

Any of you guys change your own tires? I'm thinking about e-baying a good automatic tire changer and just doing the job myself. The dealer wants to charge me $250 for the complete job (bring the bike and tires in and they return me a bike with new tires). I noticed that I can get nice fully automatic tire changes online for about 700 bucks...

Ok - I'm going with the regular Pilot Powers... the 2CT's aren't readily available in teh US yet  . Anyone know where the best price is?

You can't go wrong with the 014's..........GREAT tire!!!!! I've used 2 sets on my 12R and they have never slipped yet! EVER!! The Powers are also GREAT tires as far as I hear and the seem to last longer I hear. I'm going to try a set of those on my 10R next and leave the 014's on the 12R to compare the feel of the two back to back. Well as close as you can with two totally different bikes.

I do, but I don't use any fancy automatic machine. Just manual bead breaker and irons. Plus a stand for balancing. All was about 120 here in Europe. It takes me about 30 minute per tire from of to back on riding. So I've saved a fair bit in changing the tire my self. And one bonus is that You can do it when ever You have time. Don't have to wait for a dealer. Of course at that price a automatic changing machine dosen't look too expensive. But does that inclcude balancer too?

$230.00 to my door,, dont think it gets better than that !

for the money...Pilot Powers......great street tire with great wear, and traction good enough for even the most spirited of riding.....

i run pirelli supercorsas soft compound front and rear... 190 rear (nice and round, significantly different shape). i only get about 1000 miles from the rear tire, and i rarely do burn outs. best tire ive ever used- cornering is so much smoother- really you can tell the difference right away. the soft compound is awesome but doesnt last for shit with my riding style and the stroker engine... i generally buy everything from kneedraggers.com, they usually match prices if they arent lowest already and since they are in delaware i get things pretty quickly. not really into "economic/budget" tires since i tried the higher end ones.

I had Pirelli Diablos on the 12 last and absolutely loved them. I have a brand new set of Mich Pilot Powers on it now based on the strong recommendation of several of my buddies.
DenverYZF got 4700 miles out of his last set on his gixxer1k and that includes a rally down in the desert and two track days. Very impressive mileage and really good grip too.

My sponsor Rob Lombardi and Steve Lombardi of LB Racing says the Michelin Pilot Powers give him more confidence and allow him to ride faster...He also says the Powers make you charge in and out of the corners!!!
