Dammit Bear.... I am trying to resist ordering these things atleast until fall. I am hearing an awful lot of good things about them. If there is anymore info you can send me about them and the installation send it to rellis@ecsis.net , but remember, I am waiting until fall. ____________

.. top end speed and 1/4 mile times are subjective. When are we going to get some real HP numbers? I would like to see the dyno results first, but then I am definitely "IN" ____________

zx9r,
I've learned over the years, don't get caught up in numbers.... I have never seen a fast dyno. Don't get me wrong, they are a good tool and bragging rights are fun but real world conditions is what I'm interested in.
I recently bumped my compression, degreed my cams and cleaned up my head. After going to the dyno a whopping 1.5 hp in peak was shown but the power carried further, right up to the rev-limiter. On the street the bike feels a bunch faster and was proven by out running my benchmark son. He stated that the faster we went, the harder I pulled like never before.
Kawasaki has a great ram air system on the 12 and I'm a firm believer that alot of mods, including Bears stacks show up at speed rather than sitting static on a dyno.

I agree, but IMHO 1/4 mph is a VERY reliable relative hp indicator as long as the rider stays in the gas hard; my ET's vary all over the place, but my mph doesn't (except on windy days).
Add/Subtract 1mph for each 15# in weight difference to "equalize" different bikes/riders, and then the difference in mph = the difference in hp.
For me 4hp increase/loss = 1mph
I just installed stacks and will see the impact on my mph the next time to the track. I would be VERY, VERY satisfied with even 1 mph increase ____________

You guy's that don't think a dyno is the proper tool for measuring the absolute increase or decrease of Torque (Horsepower)of an engine, probably don't think a Torque wrench is necessary for proper tightning of bolts. You are sure you can feal it more accurately. I have a challenge for you. Name one Championship winning team in any kind of Motorsports that does not use a Dyno and Torque wrench's.

Rob,
don't count me a one of those "no dyno, no torque wrench guys". I AM a believer in dyno's and have my bike dynoed to tune it.
BUT, I am equally a believer in 1/4 mi mph as being the ultimate test in useable hp for me (a novice 1/4 mi guy). My fat ass on my 1361 with a "miserly" 194 dyno hp
has dusted plenty of folk with more dyno hp...
BTW: I will be dynoing the before after effect of putting a FBG vacuum pump on my 12 this weekend ____________

Mr. Muzzy, I believe we all agree with you, but, is there not times a vehicle will perform better after performance mods but not necessarily show an increase in peak horsepower?
I have access to a DynoJet 250 but don't own one.....but I do have two torque wrenches.

I must admit that all of you folks most likely know more about making horsepower than myself. But I do know a little about airflow and how increasing flow into an engine can generate more power. If Bears parts can actually cause a more laminar flow of air into the engine, is it not possible this really could equate to more power and increased top speed??
I have often wondered how much air pressure is generated in the airbox via the snorkel at speeds above 100 mph. So how can we really know how much extra power can be generated at top speed. Are there any Dynos that can simulate this increased air pressure in a static environment?? If so I personally have never heard of one.
In a static Dyno run the snorkel is nothing more than an air inlet into the combustion chamber... But at speeds close to 200 mph the snorkel allows the air pressure to increase and in turn generate extra power.
Could it be possible that the construction of Bear's parts simply allow more air pressure to be generated in the combustion chamber?
For those riders looking for the optimal performance and top speed it must be a combination of science, technology and a touch of artful magic..
It is very hard to dispute the facts that Dan was able to generate at Maxton..
I personally am very impressed with Dan's efforts..
Hey Dan.. can I borrow your extra torque wrench?

Oldkawboy- There are many things that will alter the performance of a vehicle at the track. This is why engine output can only be measured accurately on a dyno. Here is a short story. Back when we ran WSB Scott Russell's bike was showing 5mph more top speed on the straight away than Anthony Goberts. Both engines dynoed within one hp. After looking at the Data from the computer, we realized Anthonys bike had 8% wheel spin and Scotts had 5% wheel spin. We made a suspension adjustment and picked up the missing 5 mph.

I am just mesmerized by his riding, but tell me Rob, why does he talk that way?
By the way, You ever hang out with that guy from My Classic Car? Who had handlebar first? His is kind of overkill, ya know? Just wondering.

Hey Sleezyrider,
What part of TN do you live? Come over to Maryville for a ride and you can have your choice of either my 3/8" or 1/2" torque wrenches!!!
Mr. Muzzy, I appreciate your replies and value your opinions like so many other board members here. Most of us don't have the bucks to support a high dollar project bike, but we sure enjoy the nickle and dime items to make our streetbikes better. A horse here and there can add up to a full stable.
