stacks don't fit???
I have the Muzzy blue stacks, and they don't fit in there as they should. Looks like the throttle bodies need to tilt backwards for the stacks to seat properly. Loosen the TB/engine boots, and adjust?? I don't recall seeing anyone else mentioning such a thing. Problems??
I put a floor jack under the engine, to check for any movement. seems very solid.
Also, the o-rings that the stacks sit on are smaller than the provided groove, but seem to roll in where they're supposed to on install. I tried one without the o-ring , still crooked. So much for a 5 minute, no-brainer job

You could try loostening the motor mount bolts and shift the engine with a jack and set your stacks then retighten. Theres quite a bit of movement there.
Did you have the engine out before?
Have at least one buddy help you hold the bike on a set of stands.

Sounds better already, thanks guys.
Only thing is...the stacks surely won't hold the engine up, if it wants to sag down?? There are rubber grommets that the bolts go through, maybe shot??
thanks again, jeff

The engine shouldnt move once the mounts are tightened. Dont forget to preload the the adjusters. You need to follow the book on the procedure.

The adjusters are for side-side only?? Any up-down adjustment??
Loosen all mountint points, jack 'er up, and retighten? That would be super.

Well, I loosened all mounting points, tried moving it up/down with the floor jack, and it does'nt move at all. I have it up on a rear stand, and it just jacks the whole bike up onto the rear stand.
I tried to loosen the boots (tb/engine),to see how they're sitting on there...
I can't get to the 2 right side allen clamps, since they are all pointed left.
This blows, finally hitting the 60's here, and the 12's buggered...guess it owes me one for all the trouble free romps it's given me.

I saw the adjusters in the manual, but they looked like just spacers. I'll go through it again. Was giving it a quick go at 2am after work....
Did'nt remove the bolts, just loosened. Will do.
If I get at those allens, I'll definetly flip them.
thanks guys, jeff

Dont pull the very long motor mount bolts out. but yea you will have to loosten the spacers. They are threaded. I think one might be lefthanded?

One adjuster is loose, and I can move the other a bit. Plenty loose for it to move, if it chooses. Front mounts are danglin.'
It still won't move up at all, stacks crooked. At least a millimeter from seating down in the throttle bodies, front of the stacks a bit more. I'll keep fiddlin', see what happens.

Well, just as I was starting to give up and start tearin' 'er down, it moved up into place. Stacks are true, hope the front mounts line up good. And, that it stays put!
Ever hear of any other droopy engines??

I havent no.
But i did notice that there was alot of adjustment up and down with the mounts, and thought that it could be a problem with stack alignment.
Someone way back when had a loose mount and had some bad vibration.

Well..........thought I had it licked, but it's definetely f'd up. The front mounts alone have so much slack that the engine just droops right back down when I let the jack down. The 2 rear mounts could never cope with the weight of the engine alone. The holes in the front mounts are so much larger than the bolts that go through, plus the rubber bushings, forget about it. I find it hard to believe that nobody else has had this problem. I'll bet that many are hangin' low, un-noticed. I would have never known, had I not tried the billet stacks.
One strange thing about my 12 since soon after I bought it....the fastener that joins the rear of the ram air cover to the top of the lowers was never right. I had to really pull it together to get it through both pieces, until the hole in the ram air cover eventually pulled through Did'nt affect anything really, so I just let it be. The fairings have always been a bitch to line up.Seems the engine may be hangin' for quite some time.
If I somehow figure out how to make a solid aluminum bushing, to replace the rubbers, would it matter?? I don't care about a little more vibration if the engine stays put. The small bolt holes at the top of the mounts could surely take the next largest bolt, any issues with re-tapping the frame for em??
