2000 vs. 2002 Back to Back
Well, I picked up the new blue 2002 Friday. Put my 2000 back to stock and got to ride both bikes on Saturday. The lower bars on the 2002 are noticeable right away. Feels like the rear sits higher too. Noticed the new bike shifts better than the 2000 ever did, much tighter. New bike feels lighter and more flickable, but I haven't been in any real corners yet. Seat is not as round, and feels more comfortable. Didn't open it up yet, but it feels like the low end pull is better.
Started to get it ready for drag racing which starts in May, and noticed some things that are different, and others that are the same. Opened up the clutch. Didn't see anything that would indicate it will route more oil than before to the plates. (put in the Muzzy parts) Clutch basket seems to be the same (installed billet basket). As noticed before, there is one more thin plate with the spring set up in the middle of the pack. (got rid of that and used the thick steels). Looks like the mirror mounts are the same, and I'll be able to use my mirror eliminators (some people might want to buy 2002 mirrors for their old bike). Fairing mounts a lot different in the front. There are inner pieces up underneath, and gone are those two plastic fasteners that are a bear to get out (replaced by four of the little black screws) Muzzy tells me the timing advancer will not fit the 2002. Noticed that there is much less room between the steering stem bearing and the tank to route my tie down strap. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll try to help out. I'll report in how it does at the drags compared to the 2000. I think I'll be likeing that extra half inch of wheelbase and changed swingarm pivot point.

Just found out that the Muzzy pipe won't fit on the 2002. I'll have to sell my old one and get the new pipe that's due out around the end of the month. Damn! I was hoping it would be the same.

2002 Muzzy pipe will fit
The Muzzy pipe will fit. One of my boys has one mounted allready. I think they are trying to engineer the clearance so that it wont burn the fairing like on the 00-01. The Ackropovic pipe will fit also...One of my boys has that one installed also. To this point, the muzzy hasnt messed up his fairing, and if it did u couldnt see it anyway.

Did they put some of the heat shielding on to protect the fairing? That's good news. My pipe is in perfect shape. In case someone was looking, I am keeping my 2002 mirrors. I only take them off to race.
