Going through a spark plug hole or past an intake valve to look at the edge of the pistons 360 degrees for detonation and to look at the cylinder walls. Will this tool allow me to do this?

A buddy of mine had a Snap-On one.
It was a pretty cool tool for seeing things your normally couldn't see without pulling apart
Although the resolution was very grainy and you had to hold the button real hard to keep the light on.
I don't remember if we were able to get it to curl back up and see valves.
But looking at the edges of pistons was a breeze.

If it's a good one it's like climbing down through the hole and wandering around.
It's really cool, kind of like "The Fantastic Voyage" when they do the inside of your poop chute.

I have one from snap on, with the high intensity bulb, it does work to look down the cylinders, but the resolution isnt the best. you can see major damage when it happens and at times you can see scores on the cylinder walls. It is a nice tool to have but it doesnt always work the best.

Good ones are well over a grand with attachments. They're medical grade. Jet engine guys use them a lot.

I'll post some pics of the one we use at work to check orbital welds on our 316L sanitary piping. Like doug said, its like walking into the pipe and looking around.

You can see in detail small imperfections .001" in pipe welds. We digitally record the welds and have to show them to the FDA. These systems are bio-pharm quality welds with zero imperfections.

Anyway, i'll post some pics.

This is the unit we use at work to take pictures and or digital video record the piping welds.

The control head with the real time screen.

The main unit.

The probe. The small rectangle slit is the light source. You cant really see the lenz, but its the larger square hole more towards the end. You can just see the reflection of the lenz.

This little machine can see a piece of hair in the pipe. Actually you can read text the height of the thickness of a human hair.
I think its a bit over kill for what you want to see. But its exactly what some top race teams use. You could see a microscopic crack starting in a valve.

And yes... one guy did stick it up his nose... for real. It was freekin amaizing whats up in there.

Y2KZX12R..that is an awesome looking piece of equipment for which I cannot afford from the looks of it I'm more concern with the poor mans hand held version in the clarity of the borescope. Btw.. what does a unit like cost?

I'm not sure what it cost. My guess would be in the few thousand dollar range, maybe 2-3 grand. I could find out.
