Even more old blast from the past.... (pics)
This pic was taken back in '97 or '98. Mike and I were staying at the swank "Bradley's Court" in Gatlinburg. We'd been out blasting the gap and some other roads that day and met this guy Allen at the old Amoco station in Townsend. Townsend was VERY different in those days, it's a metropolis now compared to then. Anyway, this guy had a cool yellow 748 Ducati, (pictured) and he was looking at a map when Mike and I stopped at the station to refuel and take a break. We spoke to him, talked about the bikes, roads and just BS'd a bit. He asked where we were off to? We told him that we were headed back to Gatlinburg and were taking a sweet road that was just a few miles up the way. That road was the infamous Little River Road which years later would try to kill me, and did kill my '99 ZX11. Anywho, not the best road for balls out riding with the nature of it. Lot's of rock faces just inches away from you, and just tricky in many areas. The sun coming through into the canyon, and through the trees makes the light constantly change too. the road is kick ass, and you can string together some nice sections and haul ass if the cages aren't clogging it up. But for the most part the fun way to ride it is a nice brisk "No brake" pace with plenty of room for margin. But back to the story.....
Allen asked if we cared if he tagged along. We said it'd be cool to have another rider so he came along. Well this fella was a pretty good rider and handed Mike and I our asses in the tight stuff as that 748 was a much sharper knife than the ZX11 or the 1200 Bandit. But the insane rednecks didn't let him shake us and kinda surprised the ol' boy that he just couldn't get away. Mike lagged a little behind because the ol 11 would just smoke him on anything resembling a straight, and I'd make up time on the Duc. Well as any of you that have ridden the road know that it opens up a few miles before you get to the visitors center just outside Gatlinburg. When it did I reeled that goddamned mustard yellow biatch in like he had ran outta gas and skull fucked him for good measure. I stopped at the first redlight in G'burg to wait on him and Mike. All he could say about the big Kaw was "Geez that thing'll pull", in a very thick Austrailian accent I might add.
He followed us to our digs and we sat out on the front porch and shot the shit. Mostly about riding and whatnot. Then for some odd reason Mike was telling a story about something and paused trying to remember some facts and laughed off the matter by saying that he guessed he'd indulged into too many recreational chemicals. That was the ice-breaker ol' Allen was waiting for I guess as he broke out some ultra wicked shit like what killed Elvis. I'm talking about that green shit, sticky icky icky.......... Well since I don't smoke the stuff I watched those guys get stoned out of their gords and laugh like schoolgirls. It was a cool afternoon to say the least. I only snapped a few pics that day. I've often wondered what ever happened to that dude Allen, the dope smoking Ducati rider from my past???? He'd been right at home with the DG crew. Who knows, we may run into him over there someday. That'd rock................

Here's a pic I snapped at the old Amoco. DG regulars can attest that Townsend has changed a lot. A LOT..... look at the old goat path two lane.

Here's a pic inside the store. You all know it too is VERY different now. That bulletin board and a lot of those crash pics have survived though. But they are in a different area now.

A shot of my old 11 (97 model) up on Mount Mitchell. We had a great ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway that day.

Great pics Ninjaman. Are the older ones scans or transfers to digital from negative? They came out pretty damn good if they are scans.
Looks like we followed the same path bikewise. I went from my '98 ZX-11 to the A1.
I still smile when I remember how good that 11 was in the curves considering how heavy it was.... Great bike for sure.

Yeah, I really did like the old 11, a super smooth stealthy bitch with stock exhaust.
The pics are actually scans of 35mm prints. They're are about as good as the originals I guess. LOL No matter what the quality is, they conjure up some great memories that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Who are these ugly guys?

He may look like a girl, but he sure can ride! Got a hot wife too.

Pastor Redelk

Angie and Ken. Anyone heard from them lately?

And just for kicks, this is my old '90 ZX-11C

Rick, did we have a good time or what, for the ones who have never mad it to a gap event you don't know what you are missing. The riding is great, but the people you will meet from this board is what make this event so special. I know a few of the these cat talk alot of shit but i know i could call them 24/7 for anything and they would be there. You may ride together for a week but you will be friends for life.

Good pics Steve, 'cept for them ugly bastards.
Mark, you're right brother. The riding kicks ass, but it's the friends we've made that is really great. To think that there are some members here that have missed out on these deals, ...well it makes me feel sorry for them. They have missed some great times with some good people.
Oh, and as far as some of the cats talking shit,....just tell me who they are and I'll give them 357 reasons to shut the fuck up. It it's that long haired Marcum girl I might have to do something drastic.

Here's Mike's 1200 Bandit, and my ol' POS FJ1200. Actually it was a tough old whore, and quite possibly the best burnout bike you could ever want. It came stock with a 150 rear tire, and that ol' big aircooled 1200 lump made great torque. Combine that with a dumb motherfucker and you have endless burnouts. You could be running 30mph and clutch that thing and tach it up,...dump the clutch...and...presto......instant smoke. Almost everytime I left the house I'd paint one down , and I'd be let down if I didn't at least smoke it past my neighbors drive. My wife at the time would just get irate about all the blackmarks in front of the house. My counter was that I figured the noise from the gutted Vance and Hines SS2R 4 into 1 would bother her more than the blackmarks. Yes I did say vance and hines. That sonofabitch was painfully load and obnoxious.

I just noticed something in the upper left corner of the above pic. I looks as if homeskillet has lost a hubcap off his Topfuel Aerostar. Minivans sure have come along way from that eh? Still glad I don't have to drive one though.
One more pic of my old 11.
